Answers so far from the personal canon meme:
Neville Longbottom
Neville is perfectly aware of what people think about him. He knows he isn't an exceptionally bright student, or a particularly gifted wizard, and he isn't as socially adept as most of his friends. Even those he's closest to - Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermione - think it, whether they're aware of it or not. It actually doesn't bother him. He's always known what was expected of him - his grandmother always made his shortcomings unfailingly clear - and he's never really aspired to anything more.
He doesn't have a best friend. Harry has Ron, Seamus has Dean, and he's the odd one out. Sometimes when they're all in the room together, they pretend he isn't, and Neville hates the pretense more than anything else. He isn't a particularly social person, and most of the time he's perfectly happy to be by himself. Besides, he has Trevor, and his plants, and he really doesn't see that as being inferior.
He knows that some people think that he and Luna suit one another. They're both outsiders, both loners, both overlooked. Neville finds the notion vaguely insulting, like they're two odd socks that should be worn together by default, even though they clearly don't match. Besides, he thinks Luna's kind of weird (but she's growing on him).
Peter Petrelli
Peter knew from a very early age that he'd never live up to Nathan's example, so he went out of his way to be different from his brother instead of trying to emulate him. He thinks he would have had more luck winning his parents' respect had he merely become a pale imitation of Nathan, but he wouldn't have been happy that way.
He's almost certain that's more important than his parents' approval. But he would have liked to get it, just once, before his father died.
It's never once occurred to him to seek out other heroes in order to absorb their powers. If it had, he'd actively do the opposite. He loves his powers, but he still isn't very good at controlling them, and he's still afraid that there'll be some point at which he'll simply overload, and not be able to control any of it (even putting aside the whole radioactivity issue).
