Secret agent man

Monday nights are my favourite ♥. (Well, technically they're Tuesday nights here, but whatever.) HIMYM was fun as always, and:

Heroes: 1-3 One Of Us, One Of Them

I enjoyed this week's episode, but not as much as other people, I think. I'm one of the few people who really loved Niki, and I'm really sad that she's dead; I liked the character, I liked Nathan/Niki, and I really feel for Micah. I am glad that they've kept Ali Larter on, but Niki's death, combined with the whole season two Gina storyline mess, makes me think the writers simply had no idea what to do with her, so they decided to toss the character and start from scratch. I'll be interested to know what the deal is with Niki and Tracy, and I'm still looking forward to seeing Nathan and Tracy working together, but I'll miss Niki.

I was also slightly disappointed to see the whole Peter-Jesse storyline resolved so quickly. On one hand, I'm glad that it didn't drag on too long, but on the other, I'm not really sure what the point of it was if it only lasted for a couple of scenes. I'm also sad to see Jesse go - I was really looking forward to him getting a proper scene with Elle. Or, y'know, a proper scene, period.

Two of the questions I kept seeing on my flist - why didn't Nathan ask about present!Peter, and why did Peter go with Knox et al - were answered, and most peoples' conjecture - that Peter was trying to stop the bad guys - was right. And while I still would have liked to see more of that storyline, company!Sylar almost made up for it - his FBI act, him almost being conflicted about killing, and Noah manipulating him, were all priceless. And the Haitian asking if he's being replaced? I heart him so much - Noah/Haitian BFF OTP ♥.

I did love the scenes with Hiro, Ando, Daphne, and the Haitian. I really didn't like Hiro last season, but I'm enjoying his scenes so far this season - having Ando around really makes a difference to his character. I do continue to find it amusing that Hiro automatically sees himself as the hero in any given situation, so that everyone else must be, by definition, a villain (or, in Ando's case, a sidekick); his conviction that Adam was absolutely to blame last season, his continued habit of calling Daphne "nemesis," and, perhaps most telling, his unquestioning assumption that when he saw himself fighting Ando in the future, Ando must have been the evil one. I really will be happy if that turns out not to be the case.

And, seriously, new!Isaac's entire destiny is to pain Matt's future? How terribly exciting for him.

Sarah Connor Chronicles: 2-4 Allison From Palmdale

Loved this episode. I love getting backstory from the future, and this insight into Cameron's origins was excellent. Summer Glau was excellent - the line between Cameron and Allison was amazingly well-drawn - and I'm really happy that they've decided to run with Cameron's chip malfunction, giving her the capacity for independence and decision-making abilities and emotions; I think it could lead to some very interesting places in the future.

I loved Ellison's storyline, too; at first I wasn't sure how I felt about him working with Catherine Weaver, but I'm really enjoying their interaction. I missed Derek, but it didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the episode, and I even really liked John this week - I enjoy him far more with Cameron than with Riley.

Chuck: 2-1 Chuck vs The First Date

I liked the first season of Chuck, but I wasn't intensely fannish about it; that said, this was a very good season opener. Captain Awesome and Ellie are awesome, as usual, and by far my favourite characters. I really liked Chuck deciding he wants to do more with his life, and even considering the whole secret agent business for real; as fun as the show's concept is, I'm not sure how far its long-term sustainability goes, so I'd like to see them explore more angles of his involvement in the spy world - and this episode was definitely a good start. Loved his quick thinking, and I even liked the scenes at the Buy More; I really didn't like Morgan last season, but he's starting to grow on me.

Also liked the way Chuck went about asking Sarah on a proper date, even if it was doomed from the beginning, and I loved Casey's conflict over Chuck's fate (and his suggestion that maybe Chuck was good for more than just being the Intersect). His quick-draw fireplace was ♥ - I loved the wink, and his confusion over missing the shot at Chuck.
