So, I watched the final two (leaked) episodes of SGA. More, I suspect, out of wanting to get them over and done with so I could part ways with the show for good, than out of any particular need to see them OMG RIGHT NOW. And ... I guess the most accurate way to describe my reaction would be to say that I almost loved them. I was going to post more detailed thoughts, especially about Vegas, but pretty much everything I wanted to say is summed up brilliantly in this post; to wit, that what could have been a freaking awesome episode was let down by the hugely conspicuous absence of any COCs, including half our team. As
telesilla says:
If this episode had come after a season of teamy, ensemble episodes with a couple Ronon-centric eps and a couple Teyla-centric eps, it honestly would have been one of SGA's best episodes ever.
And that, I think, was most of my problem with season five. There were a lot of episodes that, individually, were not awful - not brilliant, maybe, but not terrible - and that, as episodes that deviated from the norm of team-centric ensemble episodes, would have been fine, even enjoyable. As those episodes became the norm, however; as the default setting of the show shifted inexorably from Team, to the John And Rodney Show, to the Rodney (And Keller) Show, those episodes - and the show as a whole - became largely unwatchable to me.
So. I guess this is sort of my unofficial goodbye to SGA fandom - unofficial, because I mostly left it a while ago, and because I'm not that great at actually leaving fandoms completely. And because I still have fics to write for people. Whatever. It's been interesting.
