XOXO

I've been really slow in catching up with TV, but I finally got caught up with Gossip Girl :D

Gossip Girl: 2-16 You've Got Yale

Okay, so I finally find myself liking Dan/Serena. And I find it endlessly amusing that, in season four of The O.C., I thought that it was probably a good thing that Marissa wasn't around any more, and she and Ryan didn't have to deal with the whole "we share a sibling" thing. And now Dan and Serena are making up for that. Josh Schwartz, I've got your number.

Also, I think the new teacher's actions were really out of line re: Blair. I mean, yes, Blair did a horrible, selfish, vindictive thing. But she's also a child. And when you become a teacher, for better or for worse, part of what you're agreeing to is to act as a sort of babysitter. I know she's barely older than the kids she teaches, and I know she was probably really hurt by what Blair did or whatever, but she's reacting like she's one of Blair's peers, which I don't think is right. And I really don't think Blair needed to be punished for it the way she was; obviously, some punishment wouldn't have been out of line, but the teacher could have given Blair detention on her own terms, or made her work hard for her grades, or not given her an 'A.' But it seemed to me that she was reacting primarily out of ... I don't know, getting her feelings hurt? Which is not exactly an admirable trait in an authority figure.

And, yes, some of this is because I love Blair, and for once in her life, I think she deserves something special and wonderful that's just for her. And she earned Yale. Had the whole stupid Serena thing not happened (way to be petty and transparent, so-called bastion of higher learning and highly respected university), she would have got in on her own merits. But I also don't think the teacher is acting like she's an adult and Blair is a child, which is the way she should be acting. But then, given that she seems to be pursuing Dan (despite the fact that not only is he a student, but he's already in a relationship - with her favourite student, no less), she doesn't really seem to grasp the way the whole student/teacher dynamic thing should work.

And, Jack ... I was really disappointed with what they did with Jack in the latest episode. I mean, it's not like I thought he was a good guy or anything, but I was sad to see him so summarily dismissed, since I really wanted more of him and Blair. Though, rape does seem to be a Bass family trait. (And Chuck and Lily discussing ways to get rid of him - and Lily nixing crashing the jet because it's too expensive to waste - was completely awesome.) Given the way people seem to have given Chuck a free pass for his actions in the first episode, however - when he had not one but two attempted rapes under his belt - I've decided I can do the same for Jack. Mostly just because I enjoyed him, and, well, it is Gossip Girl we're talking about.

Someone please tell me there's (good) fic about Jack and Blair on New Year's?

Also, I was thinking about how I'm really loving the second season of Gossip Girl, and I was trying to remember what other second-season show it reminded me of in terms of improvement, and realised it was Chuck. Which is funny, but also, after the way The O.C. steadily declined over the course of seasons two and three, I think it shows that Josh Schwartz has really learned something. And given that season four of The O.C. was one of my favourite TV seasons ever, and possibly one of the best transitions of a high school show to the year post-graduation, I'm cautiously optimistic about season three of Gossip Girl, should it continue.
