I can't even come up with a clever title for this

Having (finally) now watched the unaired live action Wonder Woman pilot, I am no longer disappointed it didn't get picked up. At all.

Can I please have a talk with the person who decided there needed to be more realism in comics? Because I would really just like to say that IT HAS OFFICIALLY GONE TOO FAR WHEN WONDER WOMAN'S GREATEST ENEMY IS THE U.S. LEGAL SYSTEM. Not even kidding, this is pretty much verbatim from the pilot. I just watched, in earnest, forty minutes of Wonder Woman negotiating corporate life, marketing, legal procedure, due process, and life as a single woman in [insert city here]. SHE WATCHED THE NOTEBOOK AND CRIED BECAUSE IT REMINDED HER OF HOW SHE BROKE UP WITH HER BOYFRIEND TO GO FIGHT CRIME. (Because being in her life would put him in danger, GEE IT'S A GOOD THING SHE DOESN'T HAVE A SECRET IDENTITY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT WHICH MIGHT TOTALLY SOLVE THAT PROBLEM.) SHE WANTS TO SET UP A FACEBOOK PROFILE BUT SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS EXCEPT HER CAT. ETTA CANDY IS HER TWENTY-FIVE YEAR OLD - ASSISTANT? IDK. STEVE TREVOR IS A BABY LAWYER AND THEIR BREAKUP IS STILL SO RAW THAT HE ALREADY GOT MARRIED. SHE HAS A FATHER FIGURE BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT WHAT WONDER WOMAN REALLY NEEDED WAS ONE OF THOSE. SHE TORTURED A GUY FOR INFORMATION, TOO BAD SHE DOESN'T HAVE, I DON'T KNOW, A LASSO OF TRUTH THAT WOULD MAKE THAT KIND OF THING COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.

SHE ALSO STRAIGHT-UP KILLED AT LEAST ONE DUDE. ON CAMERA. NO BIG DEAL.

(Also, she apparently stands for "truth, justice, and the American way. Sort of." So basically she's like the boring parts of Superman mixed with the boring parts of Batman mixed with a mediocre police procedural, but with more murder and single-girl relationship angst. Awesome.)

Ugh you guys it was the worst, I thought it would at least be funny-bad but it was just bad-bad, SORRY IF YOU LIKE SUPERVILLAINS AND HEROES BEING HEROIC AND NOT KILLING AND TORTURING PEOPLE AND LIVING IN AWESOME WORLDS FULL OF AMAZONS AND SUPERPOWERS AND COOL COMIC BOOK SHIT, BUT IF YOU LIKE IN-DEPTH DISCUSSIONS ABOUT DUE PROCESS AND MARKETING ETHICS AND SCIENTIFIC MISCONDUCT THIS IS THE UNAIRED PILOT FOR YOU.

If it makes you feel any better, I accidentally flipped into the pilot of Scandal last night. The TV told me it was going to be a Castle rerun, I swear.
I only stuck around for like ten minutes, but it was the most offensive thing I've seen in a while. HE'S A HERO, HE CAN'T BE GAY. HOW COULD HE RESPECT THE MILITARY UNIFORM IF HE ADMITTED HE WAS GAY TO PEOPLE? (Sad fact: actual dialogue from show, when they tell the guy that maybe he should admit he was having gay sex at the time the lady he was accused of murdering was murdered).
Then the secretary that the President (like, of the United States, seriously, dead horse) had an affair with is threatening to come forward, so the heroine confronts her, on solely the word of the President, and not like, any evidence or investigating, and tells her her career is over and she's a dirty liar and she's had sex with other people in her life, and her mother is in a mental institution, and basically, WHO DO YOU THINK THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WILL BELIEVE, THE PRESIDENT OR THE SLUT WITH A CRAZY MOM? And that her career in Washington is over, and she should go live a miserable life elsewhere. And then tells her brand new assistant that she was brought along to testify in court that she "didn't threaten or blackmail" the lady. And then, when the secretary shows up at her office to say, what the fuck was that, she gets all indignant and says YOU CAN'T BE HERE THIS IS MY OFFICE, HOW DARE YOU SHOW UP AT MY OFFICE, and that's basically when I flipped to something different in rage.

(Sorry for ranting all over your perfectly justifiable anger, but it kind of pissed me off, and I was looking for an excuse to vent.)

BACK ON TOPIC. I think Hollywood just hates Wonder Woman. All female superheroes, but mostly Wonder Woman.
