2012 year end fandom meme
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
Arrow, The Mindy Project, Terra Nova (!), Teen Wolf (!!!!!), Chicago Fire, Suits, Miranda (<3). I actually watched the first few episodes of Battlestar Galactica (1978), and it was exactly as ridiculous and awesome as I expected it to be. And recently I started watching H2O: Just Add Water, which, ditto ;) In keeping with the comics-heavy theme of this year, I also picked up a lot of animated shows - Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Green Lantern, Teen Titans, Ultimate Spiderman.
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
I tried out a few shows this year I wasn't particularly into (Beauty and the Beast, I wanted to love you so much), didn't go back to some I tried out last year and was still on the fence about (Once Upon a Time, ditto - though I somehow ship Mulan/Aurora hardcore despite never having seen them on the show, so if ever became canon, I would probably change my mind), and am pretty much hopelessly behind on a lot more. Oh, and How I Met Your Mother. I still love Ted Mosby's face and everything it stands for, I just really don't care about anything else on the show. We'll always have tumblr, Ted Mosby's face <3
Your main fandom of the year?
For the first half of the year, Big Time Rush; for the second half, comics!!!!!!!
Your favorite film watched this year?
I really want to say Pitch Perfect, because it was amazing, but really it was Dhoom 2, no regrets. I also watched all the DCAU films, which I really enjoyed.
Your favorite book read this year?
Stephanie Brown's run as Batgirl, which is also one of my favourite things I've read ever. In terms of non-comic books, which are a distinct minority of things I read this year, I really enjoyed Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Comics! Comics will break your heart, for serious. First Steph (and Cass, and Donna, and Wally, and a bunch of other characters I love) didn't exist in the New 52, or might as well not (poor Koriand'r) (and, yeah, I know that launched last year, but I didn't read the New 52 #1s until January, so for me all the disappointment happened this year). And then the whole Steph-as-Nightwing-oops-no-we-meant-Barbara (again) thing happened, and it pretty much broke my heart, and ... I have to admit, unlike a lot of fans I actually have been following (and enjoying) a lot of the reboot, but - a lot of the changes, were this a temporary AU or separate line (and don't even get me started on how DC should have just released an ultimate universe-esque line and left their main continuity the hell alone), I would think were really cool, but as the main and newly permanent continuity I HATE, and ... okay, if I don't stop talking about this, it's just going to become The Post Where I Hate On The DC Reboot, which is not actually what I was going for. But, yeah, comics.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Also probably comics. Sigh. But I read a lot of comics this year (about ten times what I read last year, when I considered myself pretty heavily into comics, so, yeah). Batgirl. Blue Beetle. Booster Gold. Rose Wilson. Tiny Titans (!!!!!!). Waiting for The Mindy Project to finally debut. Finding out Miranda was getting a third season. Yuletide. Off-LJ, I also spent a lot of time waiting for Guild Wars 2 to launch, so that was pretty great.
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
Pretty much everything I listed last year, oops! I tend to get into new shows based on whatever I feel like at the time, which can be fairly unpredictable, I don't know why I even bother making lists.
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2012?
Haha, I have no idea? Not even going to predict this one, I'm just going to let it surprise me.
Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
Initially, I was pretty disappointed by The Mindy Project, but then I totally fell in love with it, so IDEK. Shows I wasn't really into I pretty much just stopped watching, I had a lot less time for bad TV this year than I have in the past.
Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2013 unless things significantly improve?
I've been a lot less in love with Parks & Rec the past season or so than I used to be, which is super sad, but I'll probably at least give it until the end of the season. And I haven't actually watched season four of The Good Wife, but what I've heard has put me off a little, so I'm considering not so much bothering with that.
Which TV show impressed you the most in 2012? Why?
Arrow is actually a lot better than I thought it would be - I was initially wary of it because it seemed to be doing a lot to distance itself from comics, ew!, but it hasn't struck me like that in the actual show, and there have been a lot of references and easter eggs I've appreciated. Plus, I still really, really want Thea to be Speedy, so I have to keep watching until that happens ;)
Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Teen Wolf, maybe. Like, let's face it, it already is pretty crappy, as long as Lydia keeps being amazing and Scott's face keeps existing I'll keep watching. The Mindy Project, because Mindy Kaling. Hart of Dixie. Arrow, as long as it keeps giving me comics on TV. Pretty much things I'm watching for reasons other than expecting them to be good in the first place.
