Top 5: Pages/panels from comics

[livejournal.com profile] dhampyresa asked: Top 5 pages/panels from comics?

This was actually a lot easier than I thought it'd be, but at the same time I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of things, and there's a lot I'm leaving out. In the end, this is mostly "comics panels/pages that give me a lot of feelings," and it's fairly DC/Batfamily heavy, but, well, feelings. (Also contains spoilers, mostly for Blue Beetle and Batman Incorporated/Batman & Robin.)

5. Alfred "saves" Robin, Batman and Nightwing #23

This one is 100% because of my Alfred feels, which are many. (I don't care which member of the Batfamily is actually your favourite, I think we can all agree that Alfred is objectively the best one.) This is actually from the New 52, shockingly; the issue is all about Bruce entering a VR simulation over and over to try to find a way he could have saved Damian, but the bit that really got me was here at the end, when Alfred does the same. Because if Bruce is the worst dad ever most of the time, Alfred is the best, always.

4. Infiltrator function "Khaji" subnotation "Da", Blue Bettle v.2 #25

This entire arc is one of my favourite in comics, and this was one of the standout moments for me. It's the moment when we learn what "Khaji Da" means - that it's not an alien command, but the scarab's name, and him claiming it as such rounds off what I think is one of the best character arcs in any media. (Khaji Da's, not Jaime's, though his is good, too.)

3. Steph slaps Bruce, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home - Batgirl One-Shot

I have a lot of issues with the relationship between Steph and Bruce, some of which I go into a little below, but I also just really like it when people call him out on his shit. It's why I love Alfred so much, it's the basis of some of my favourite Barbara moments (come talk to me about how amazing she is in War Games), and I was really happy to see Steph step up to the plate here. Basically, I think everyone in Bruce's life should call him on it when he does something wrong, because that seems to be his self-appointed role in the Justice League/wider DC universe, and I like to see that come back around on him.

(And, I mean, I do like Batman, except for sometimes when I hate Batman, but he and I are not without our issues. Clearly.)

2. Captain Jerk of the Ultimate Jerk Squad of America, Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man v.2 #14

Not just because Captain America - specifically Ultimate!Cap - is a jerk, but for Gwen Stacy Clone Gwen Stacy calling out a problem I have with a lot of older male superheroes, which is when they act like arbiters of what younger, often female, (aspiring) superheroes are and are not allowed to do. (Because mentors and legacies are one of the best things about comics, and because this is the opposite of that.) It happened with Batman telling Stephanie Brown she couldn't be Spoiler (for pretty much the entire run of Robin, which I only ever read for Steph), even going as far as to convince Black Canary to stop training her WHICH IS SO STUPID, SHE'S CLEARLY GOING TO GO OUT THERE NO MATTER WHAT DON'T YOU AT LEAST WANT HER TO HAVE SOME SKILLS; it happened in Young Avengers, with 616!Captain America trying to force them to disband their team; and it happened here, when Ultimate!Cap tried to tell Miles Morales he couldn't be Spider-Man, even though Aunt May, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane, Nick Fury, Peter Parker's clone, and PETER PARKER FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE all said he could. Screw you, Captain America.

1. The history of the Batfamily as told by Stephanie Brown, Batgirl v.3 #15

Pretty much my favourite thing to have ever happened in comics. Because it's so adorable and accurate (I AM THE (K)NIGHT!!!!!!!) and Steph, and as much as I love all the other panels/pages here for different reasons, mostly I love it when comics make me feel joy, and this makes me the most joyful ever.
musesfool: Stephanie Brown as Batgirl (can't hardly wait)

These are all great, because yes. But especially, "First to have a name. First to have a friend." And STEPH SLAPPING BRUCE. BEST PANEL EVER.
