2013 year in review
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I had a great New Year's Eve, which consisted of staying home with my boyfriend, watching monster movies, and playing drinking game bingo. Fun! We watched Pacific Rim, Starship Troopers, Dragon Wars: D-War, and Jurassic Park, and it was EXCELLENT.
It's also time for the requisite year in review stuff, so, a meme, courtesy of pretty much everyone on my friends list:
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2013?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Reign, The Fosters, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Orphan Black, Sleepy Hollow, Almost Human, Defiance, The Almighty Johnsons, Go On, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Under the Dome, Graceland, The Americans, NCIS: LA. I also picked The Good Wife back up for season five, which was THE BEST DECISION.
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2013?
I think I've finally managed to detach myself from Suits, though I'll miss Louis Litt. I also tried really hard to get into Orange is the New Black, but it just wasn't for me.
Your main fandom of the year?
Comics! A lot more evenly split between Marvel and DC this year; even though I'll probably always consider myself a DC girl at heart, one of the major companies is actually doing thing I enjoy, and it isn't DC.
Your favorite film watched this year?
Pacific Rim! <3 I also really enjoyed Catching Fire, probably more than the first Hunger Games film. As far as older films go, I marathoned all the Resident Evil films and was SUPER INTO THEM. Twice.
Your favorite book read this year?
ALL THE COMICS, which I talked about here. Non comics-wise, um, The She-Hulk Diaries? Also HDU, that was pretty great. And On Basilisk Station, which I read for the first time! I also re-read Heist Society and Divergent, so those were great as always.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which, I probably had super high expectations? But I just want it to be MORE COMICS-Y, which it is not, and that makes me sad. Can it just be more like Arrow, please? Also FF, Fearless Defenders, and Journey Into Mystery being cancelled, sigh.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
IDK IF YOU'VE HEARD BUT STEPHANIE BROWN IS COMING BACK TO COMICS, NBD. AND MULAN IS CANONICALLY IN LOVE WITH AURORA. Also I was SUPER excited about Coach coming back to New Girl.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. Pacific Rim! Saga! <3 All the other comics I started reading this year and loved, which would take far too much time to mention them all.
Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Barry Allen, THE FLASH PILOT BETTER GET PICKED UP IS ALL I'M SAYING. Scott McCall, always.
Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Rose Wilson. Jennifer Walters. Amy Santiago. Sloan Sabbith. Mulan.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Battlestar Galactica. I actually miss those endless hiatus seasons when it was like the best bits of closed and open canons all mixed together, like, we had ages to write all the fic we wanted without being contradicted, but also new canon to look forward to! Also Wizards of Waverly Place, though I actually did write WoWP fic this year, so it's less of an old fandom and more one I'm still desperately clinging onto.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
More comics! I don't think I'll ever be able to read all the comics I want to, but that's half the fun of it. I'd also like to try some anime, which I haven't really watched a lot of before, but so much of it sounds SUPER RIDICULOUS AND AMAZING, so.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
New Captain Marvel! Ms Marvel! She-Hulk! Miles Morales coming to 616! And Festivids in January, which is always super great.
