Random fandom-ness

Kyle Gallner is freaking adorable. I was already seriously fangirling Smallville episode 4:5 - Run before I ever watched Veronica Mars, but I rewatched the episode the other day, and man. I think I like Cassidy a little better now. That's probably wrong.

I am so in love with Claire and Nathan. In fact, that whole family is like one big chemistry supernova. More inappropriate touching, please (if that's even possible). In fact, I think that's why I never really liked Simone. It isn't because I ship Peter/Claire (even though I totally do); but just about everyone on that show has amazing chemistry, and she and Peter just ... didn't. I mean, they didn't suck - on any other show I might have really loved them - but compared to some of the other relationships on Heroes, I think it was just lacking something.

Apparently, I've become a fandom pessimist. I have no idea when it happened, and frankly, it's upsetting. Way back before I was ever involved in fandom, when I fell in love with Buffy, I knew about a show's cancellation when it was reported in the TV guide, or when it stopped airing. But as I've fallen in love with fandom, and with shows like Firefly and Veronica Mars and Arrested Development and Dead Like Me, apparently I've started thinking about the shows I watch in limited terms; a few seasons, not expecting them to continue in the long term. I was reading this article, which said:

Adrian Pasdar is naturally circumspect about the immediate future for Nathan Petrelli, his politician character on "Heroes." But he's more than happy to speculate on something that might happen in, oh, season five or six.

"When you're in the game of politics and you're a guy like Nathan, there's only one seat, ultimately, that you're looking for, and that's behind a desk in the Oval Office," Pasdar says. "As we take our journey, and hopefully we get a chance to be on the air for a number of years, I think we might find ourselves in the White House. Where that family fits into the family he has now ought to be interesting."

and my first reaction to them mentioning season five or six was one of inherent disbelief that there will be one. In fact, I kinda thought it was a joke. But when Adrian Pasdar said that he hopes Heroes will be on the air for a number of years, I realised that, oh yeah, that can actually happen. It kinda made me sad that I don't think that way any more, but now I'm all hopeful for Heroes (and completely excited that Adrian Pasdar wants to be a part of it for that long, because both he and Nathan are completely awesome). I'm not necessarily expecting it - yet - but I'd love to have one current long-term fandom love; a show that actually chooses to go off air. I'm choosing to believe that it's still possible.

Cassidy was in CSI:NY the other night. He was stalking someone.
