Veronica Mars Finale

I ... don't know what to say, really. I can't believe it's over. Actually, that's probably not true. I started watching Veronica Mars less then three months ago, by which time Kristin had already stated and recanted that the show was going to be cancelled. I dove into fandom with my eyes open, hoping for the best, expecting the worst. But there's still that lingering sense of disbelief; that everything I've seen happen on the show, is all that is ever going to happen.

I loved the finale. It harkened back to season one in the best way; Jake Kane, Clarence Wiedman, Veronica's unfortunately public sexuality. It had, for the first time in a long time, that sense of it really being personal, which I think is what was missing after Lilly's murder was solved. And Logan beating people up.

Part of me wishes that Rob Thomas had been given, or had accepted, an opportunity to create a proper series finale. I feel like we were only really starting to return to what made Veronica Mars great, and I hate that we didn't get all the way there. The other part of me wanted everything to be left ambiguous so I could write my own ending (Veronica Mars Virtual Season Four coming soon to an LJ near you); maybe I'll feel better once I've started, and definitely once I've finished, that. In the meantime, I guess I feel that I lack - and I hate to use this word, but it is appropriate - closure; but the finale definitely went a long way to providing at least some of that.

RIP, Veronica Mars. You may be over, but I haven't left. And while I'll mourn what you never had the chance to become, I'll always celebrate what you were.
