Gryffslytherpuffclaw

I've officially decided to apply at [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_elite. Wish me luck.

I'm, and I tabulated this while I was being sorted (yes, I'm lame, shut up ^^), 85% Hufflepuff, with about 6% each of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, 0% Slytherin, and I had, 3% Squib votes. (It was 10 votes Gryffindor, 10 Ravenclaw and 5 squib, to 150+ votes to Hufflepuff.) Nobody would remember that now, although I do remember three of the people who squibbed me. (Two because I thought they were unfair reasons, and one, because she had to post it three times to get everything right, so I got the squib vote three times. XD) I think I've decided I'd rather my secondary house be Ravenclaw, because I always wished I were a Ravenclaw before. But there's no way around me being a 'puff. (And darn proud of it!)

I totally saw the Gryffinpuff in you. I feel proud now. ^^

But yeah. As long as things don't go hostile (and why would they?), it won't even matter after you're sorted.

GADS, I hope you're in my den when if you go to Hufflepuff! *wibble*

Yes! You were my very first vote, and I thought, "wow, that's totally correct." It was very awesome :)

Hee, hee, hee... I was your first! ^^ I will not go dirty places with that. I will not go dirty places with that. I will not go dirty places with that.

^^ It's always good when I can read an applicant well on their app. Some people don't write out their personalities very well.

I was a bit worried about that; I know my app wasn't the longest. (I like to think I was being concise :P) But if even a few people get me, I know I can't have done that badly.

Honestly, length isn't as important as detail and being able to articulate what you actually mean. A lot of people blather on and miss the point of what the application is trying to establish, which is to learn personality so we know where to sort. Ah, well. You succeeded, and I'm SURE you'll go to Hufflepuff. ^^ HURRAH.

(PS, I'm totally going to try to claim you for [livejournal.com profile] hannah_den, and if not, you'd better be in [livejournal.com profile] laura_den, because I said so! Not that... you have any say.)

How could I not be in hannah_den - it's named after me!

In high school, I used to be able to blather on and on with virtually no real information, and still make it sound good. Then I went to law school, where essays had to be under a certain word count, and I learned to say everything I had to say with little to no superfluousness. But sometimes, a lot of people still think length = substance.

heh I'm in [livejournal.com profile] laura_den but I talk to people in hannah all the time.

Hahha, well, I'm in [livejournal.com profile] hannah_den, and my name's Laura, so odds are you'll end up in a different den, just for grins and giggles. XD That seems to be how things work. Although, if I mention it to Shelly, I might be able to pull some strings. ^^

People applying to H_E seem to think that length = substance far too often. It rather hurts my brain, because usually said people will assert that they're Ravenclaw because of it. I don't think your app was particularly on the short side, because while reading it, I found it was pretty easy to get a feel for who you were and what your priorities are. ^^ So, yeah, you succeeded!

Yeah, I've noticed that. It seems that too long = Ravenclaw, too short = Squib; but the definitions of "too long" and "too short" are really hard to nail. I've seen apps shorter than mine not be blasted for lack of content at all, and longer apps being told there's not enough there, so it's always a bit of a gamble.

[identity profile] rainbowdarling.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the distinction is not in length, but in content and articulation. It also has a lot to do with how things are said. If you just explain things as you would in any expository essay, then likely we're not going to get much from it. People can explain how much they love _____ until they're blue in the face, but if they don't infuse their personality into the equation, then I won't be able to get anything from it for sorting. Sorting is harder than it seems sometimes, haha. XD

I've no doubt. Although I've already made a note to myself to be really careful about accusing people of pushing, since it seems to be thrown around a lot - far more than is deserved, I think.

[identity profile] rainbowdarling.livejournal.com 2006-12-29 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it's difficult to tell between someone who's genuinely that much a member of a certain house and someone who is skewing their answers to achieve a certain end. It seems to have come up quite a bit with this week's applicants, though; more than I usually see it.

To be honest, I don't like the pushing accusations either. If it's a true push, it's completely obvious that it's being done, and then usually they're either bound to be squibbed anyway, because they didn't show any other personality, or their personality shines through anyway and they get sorted appropriately.
