And a compass wouldn't help at all
Greek: 2-10 Hell Week
She might be my POV character, but Casey really pissed me off this week. I mean, I know she was in the middle of her huge boy vs career dilemma, but she was being unnecessarily selfish; blowing off both Ashleigh and Rebecca, and forgetting to buy Rebecca a present, which - especially as former Pledge Educator, and considering everything they've been through over the past year - was a really crappy thing to do. And now she might have to pay a heavy price for that, which, as much as I appreciate that the show allows its characters to behave in not-so-nice ways, and that it calls them on acting like idiots when they have been, does not make her behaviour any easier to watch. (Especially given her final scene with Rusty at the end; that was sweet, but given all her speechifying about sisterhood and family, I was really disappointed not to see her make the same effort in her relationship with Rebecca.)
Luckily, her scenes with Cappie was awesome enough to almost redeem her; the callback to the pilot was well done, a nice way to wrap up the "year" and to put that relationship - which was always one of the things I enjoyed most about the show - back at the forefront. (And I'm always a sucker for unnecessary close talking, so.) I was a little sad to see Max go - I really liked him, and I liked him and Casey together - but it was inevitable, and I suppose this wasn't a bad way to end it.
As for Frannie's new Evil PlanTM, I might actually be looking forward to it. There's still a big part of me that misses ambiguously cunning Frannie, but by this stage I've pretty much given up on seeing her portrayed as anything other than a villain, so I guess at least this way we're spared the not-so-subtle machinations and pretenses of friendship? I don't know, but I'm trying to stay cautiously optimistic, because Greek has never actually let me down in a major way. Plus, now we have President Ashleigh and the promise of more Cappie/Casey, which are both good things, and who knows - maybe the start of the new year will see some of what I loved most about the first half of season one come back again?
The Office: 5-5 Employee Transfer
OMG SHOW I FORGIVE YOU I FORGIVE YOU!!! With writer Charlie Grandy's insight into deleted scenes from last week's episode - specifically, that Kelly did offer something at the auction, and that Ryan did indeed buy it, which I knew happened but was awesome to see confirmed being as more or less canon - and the acknowledgement that, yes, other stories have been placed on the backburner while Amy Ryan finishes up her limited guest spot, hence the Michael-centric nature of the last few episodes, I was already feeling far more optimistic about Ryan and Kelly in season five. And then OMG OMG OMG RYAN/KELLY RYAN/KELLY!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ "I got her, I got her. I can help you. You look amazing." I'm so sorry I doubted you, show! And Kelly - "Inappropriate. Thank you." And was Darryl calling Kelly in the truck while Michael and Holly were fighting? Totally adorable. If anyone can talk, Kelly can.
The rest of the episode ... happened? Seriously, they won my goodwill over SO HARD with the cold open they could have shown anything for the next twenty minutes and I would have been totally on board. That said, I really enjoyed this episode - I loved the rivalry between Andy and Dwight ("The vastly superior Darthmouth, ever heard of it?" "Bernard Farms, best beets in the state." The Big Red Bear bobble head!! ♥), though Angela was not amused, and I really felt for Michael and Holly (who I did like, even if they're not enough to keep me interested in the show all by themselves).
In conclusion: RYAN/KELLY > THE UNIVERSE. That is all.
