More thoughts on No Exit. (Previous thoughts here.) Because HOLY FRAK WAS THAT A LOT OF INFORMATION TO DOWNLOAD IN FORTY-FIVE MINUTES, I AM STILL TRYING TO PROCESS ALL OF IT.
One of the things I loved most about this episode was that it resolved my long-standing biggest pet peeve with the series - that is, that Sharon is model number eight. I know it's a small thing to get hung up on, but ever since they revealed (invented) the division between the seven regular models and the final five, it's been bugging me. And I loved the way they did it, with the reveal that there is - or at least, was - an eighth model. (It also fits thematically, with the thirteenth colony, etc.)
There are some very interesting implications that follow from what we learned about Cavil this episode, with him being the first (and arguably most flawed) model created, and wanting to become a "more perfect machine." Contrast that with what we know about the eights, who are often called weak by the other Cylons, by virtue of being seen as the most 'human' - something that is strongly embedded in Boomer's storyline. There seems to be an intriguing sort of learning curve happening with the models, as the final five presumably strived to make them more human, more 'perfect' according to what they (or at least Ellen) were trying to achieve. This fits with the artistic (and favoured) Daniel, and with the sixes, who are constantly seeking love, but perhaps in imperfect ways. And, of course, with the eights having been (barring future revelations) the first model to successfully procreate. I wish, in light of this, that we'd learned more about the Simons and Dorals; I wonder what it says about the Leobens, who are model #2?
talumin suggested - and I've seen the theory floating around - that Kara could still be Daniel, albeit in a woman's body. I'm really sort of uncomfortable with this, re: what it says about her character. If there's anything I don't want for BSG, it's for the show to vindicate Dirk Benedict. And saying that Starbuck really is a man, at least originally/on the inside, would have a lot of gender/character implications I'm not sure I trust the show to deal with. On the other hand, I've also seen it suggested that Daniel could be her father, and I'd be happy with that - maybe Hera could bond with Auntie Starbuck over being cybrids? (And then she and Sam could have little three-quarter cylons of their own, and ... okay, I'm done with the shipping.)
Tangentially, I am REALLY WORRIED ABOUT ANDERS. Last week, I was afraid he was going to die. This week, I'm afraid he's going to be hybridised. Because he looked like one, with his head all shaved and hooked up the way he was, and he sounded like one, with the aphasia-induced ramblings, and ... I've seen this theory hovering around, too, and it really worries me. Because the visual and aural forshadowing ... it could happen, all too easily. And with Galactica getting a Cylon infusion, the ship also getting a hybrid is not unlikely. And I don't want Anders to be a hybrid! Hot Uncle Cooper is way too hot to be lost to us!!
On a couple of (even) shallower notes:
I loved the intro! With 70's style centurions! And going way, way back, which set the tone for the whole episode. I miss you, intro! And LOL at Tigh's, "What was the plan?"
I ... have absolutely no idea who brain surgeon guy is, but everyone else seems really fixated on it. Depending on your view, I either missed a much-needed injection of humour in a dense, serious episode, or I avoided being ripped out of the moment by a totally out-of-place cameo. I'm not sure which I would have seen it as, but I have no problem with my unclouded view of the episode, either way.
Also, BOOMER!!! I know my entire last post was about her, but she makes me so happy. I miss her, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Apparently, annoying brain doctor is the PC from those obnoxious Mac/PC commercials.
(And then she and Sam could have little three-quarter cylons of their own, and ... okay, I'm done with the shipping.)
*laughs* I'm not sure what'd call them. If poptarts are half-toasters, maybe they're, um, eggo waffles? Muffins?

These are the important debates. Forget Cylon history and theology - we need to decide on the proper terminology for hypothetical children :)

Huh. You know, I'm not sure we actually get those commercials here. (And I don't actually watch TV, as such, so I suppose it wouldn't matter.) I know who Justin Long is, but that's about it.
