This is the end: Battlestar Galactica, Daybreak
I really can't believe BSG is over. I wasn't caught up on it until tonight, but now I've watched the final episodes, so ...
Battlestar Galactica: 4-19 & 4-20 Daybreak
I'm really, really not sure what to think. I mean, on one hand, it was really epic and awesome, but on the other hand, the last half hour or so? I'm not entirely convinced that's how I wanted my characters to end. But there was a point where I was pretty much expecting a "rocks fall, everyone dies" ending, so ... I guess this was better? Even if most people did end up alone. Woe.
HYBRID SAM :( I really didn't want that for him, but ... oh, Sam. Flying into the sun! And his, "See you on the other side," to Kara, which, silly me, I once again didn't take the show quite literally enough. Like, I thought that was his way of saying goodbye or whatever, but he actually meant, "I'm not quite human, and you're not quite human, but in ... oh, about ten minutes, we'll both be gone, and we can get our rocks off in whatever not-quite-human afterlife there is out there. I'll wait up for you!"
The flashbacks were awesome, but, I guess I kind of have a thing for flashbacks. And Zak!! I think it really effectively nailed home the idea that Lee/Kara is a tragedy; that there will always be a (dead) guy between them. I'm fairly neutral when it comes to Kara ships (I have a slight preference for Sam/Kara, but I really like Lee/Kara, too), but I was glad that Lee and Kara didn't end up together - it would have felt too much like, "Well, we're both alone, so why not?" which isn't quite the epic ending I think they would have deserved, had the show gone that way. And ... it's not quite a happy ending, but the thought of Sam/Kara at the end of it all does fill me with some amount of glee.
GAIUS/CAPRICA!!! GAIUS/CAPRICA OTP!!!!! A few episodes ago, I realised I was really upset that the show was coming to an end and Gaius/Caprica was not going to happen. Like, I don't think I ever truly realised the depths to which I was convinced they were OTP (mostly because I don't think about them that much?), but it was really bumming me out, and this ... this was probably, like, my very favourite thing about the finale. Like, I think Gaius and Caprica ending up together made me even happier than Helo and Athena getting a happy ending, which I'm pretty sure makes me a bad shipper. But, GAIUS/CAPRICA! THEY ARE OTP. AND HEAD!GAIUS/HEAD!CAPRICA IS OTP. AND THEY WILL LIVE TOGETHER AND HAVE A FARM AND OCCASIONALLY REMEMBER THE WACKY HIJINKS THEIR HEAD!ALTER EGOS GOT INTO. AND HEAD!GAIUS/HEAD!CAPRICA WILL STILL BE OTP IN 150,000 YEARS.
The Fighting Agathons! I know I betrayed you a little with all the Gaius/Caprica flailing, but you guys are my favouritest. I was so very afraid that they were going to end tragically - that Athena would die, or Helo would die, or Hera would be taken away. But then, !!!!!! THEY ARE GOING TO TEACH HERA TO HUNT AND BICKER ADORABLY AND HERA WILL BE THE MOTHER OF ALL HUMANKIND. I'm really not sure I ever expected a happy ending for my favourite characters (and my ship!), so to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
Boomer :( I'm kind of okay with her storyline - I think she was given just about the best resolution we could hope for, even if the in between bits were a big old mess. I really do wish it had all gone differently, and that, well, she didn't have to die. But I was totally expecting it, so. Still, I'll always love Boomer - my Boomer, the Boomer from the miniseries and season one, who was completely frakked over by the people she loved and by programming she couldn't control, and who couldn't quite put the pieces back together. ILU ♥.
Tory, who ... I never really cared about all that much, but how many female characters did they have to kill? I did love the revelation (finally) that she killed Cally, and I loved that Tyrol actually cared enough to basically lose it. I'm not the happiest that she died, but ... well, IDK. What is it about Tyrol that makes all his women kill each other?
And Racetrack! Who I was starting to think might not actually die (someone's got to live, right?), despite the red shirt she's been wearing for the past couple of years or so, and then ... But I'm glad she got out of the brig, and that she participated in the mission. Even if it killed her. Maybe. Does she get all the most bizarre recon missions or what?
Man, why do (almost) all my favourite characters have to die?
AND OMG THE OPERA HOUSE VISIONS. MOST EPIC EVER, Y/Y? I. LOVED. IT. Just ... in that moment, I really would have almost believed RDM if he'd claimed he had it all planned from the start. Because that was some epic, awesome tying-together-seemingly-dropped-plot-threads. THE AWESOMEST.
So. Like I said, I'm not sure if I'm thrilled with the ending - I actually have meta that's sort of about that, that I want to post later - but man, did I love the ride.

bsg_pornbattle. Prompting is open until the end of the 23rd, so you should all go leave some prompts. Because what's more cathartic than porn, really?
bsg_refrak. What better way to deal with the show ending than to start it all over again? The rewatch of the miniseries is beginning this week, and god, the nostalgia! Like, do you remember when Helo wasn't going to be brought back for the series? (No, seriously.) Or when Lee and Adama didn't get along? When Adama and Roslin didn't get along? When Kara and Lee were Starbuck and Apollo? When the entire series was so full of promise, and we had no idea how it was all going to end up? Come along for the ride!
