Yuletide reveals are up! My assignment was Wizards of Waverly Place for [livejournal.com profile] noor_us_sabah, which I'm pretty sure won all the awards for Fic Most Obviously Written By Me. Also the ones for Most Ridiculous Title, though the treat I wrote possibly gave it some competition.

OMG Dinosaurs! (3137 words) by amathela
Fandom: Wizards of Waverly Place
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Alex Russo/Justin Russo
Characters: Alex Russo, Justin Russo
Additional Tags: Dinosaurs, Magic, Hijinks & Shenanigans
Summary: Alex magically brings some dinosaurs to life, oops! Which is both awesome and terrifying, at least if you're Justin.

I also wrote a pinch hit and a treat, which is (a lot) less than I wrote last year, but also I was SUPER BUSY for pretty much all of December. My treat actually ended up going in the madness collection because I was still writing it when the archive opened, but no regrets, mostly because I got to use ALL THE BEAR PUNS, so that was really fun. As was the pinch hit, because Almighty Johnsons!

Let's Get Down To Business (1363 words) by amathela
Fandom: The Almighty Johnsons
Rating: General Audiences
Characters: Dawn (The Almighty Johnsons), Anders Johnson
Additional Tags: Workplace, Office Party, Pre-Canon
Summary: The first thing Anders ever says to Dawn is, "Your place or mine?"

The Unbearable Lightness Of Being A Cop (2305 words) by amathela
Fandom: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Jake Peralta/Amy Santiago
Characters: Amy Santiago, Jake Peralta, Ray Holt
Additional Tags: Workplace Relationship, Banter, Bad Puns, Teddy Bears
Summary: Starring Detective Theodore Bear, New York's Finest (and cuddliest).

So overall I'd say this was a very successful yuletide, especially considering all the amazing gift fics I got. That said, I'm still very slowly winding my way through the archive, so it's been kinda funny to see all the reveals posts on my friends list and go, "oh, I have that one open in tabs! And that one! And that and that and that!" So I'll be getting around to actually reading those sooner or later, sorry it hasn't been sooner!
amathela: ([hsm] pin up)
Without spoiling anything (I'm pretty sure), I was going over my yuletide fic again and realised - sadly, not for the first time - that every single fic I write is exactly the same. Basically:

- Characters banter about stuff.

- Then shenanigans! Hijinks of various and sundry kinds ensue.

- Makeouts.

- Now they're ~sexy bantering.

- End with some sort of indication that the characters are totally going to hook up again.

Ta da, now you're a story! And I mean, it's not like I really care? Because obviously the kind of fic I like to read and/or write, but, you know, it's a tiny bit depressing to realise you can only really do one thing, and you just keep doing it over and over. Also, I cannot end fics to save my life. ENDINGS, WHAT ARE THEY. And writing sexy kissing is hard! I keep coming up with possible lines and then being EW NO THAT'S ACTUALLY GROSS NOT SEXY, and so all my makeout scenes end up being pretty much the same. Oops!

But anyway, I finished editing my yuletide fic! And I picked up a pinch hit, and I'd really like to write some treats but it's like 7pm on Christmas Eve, so probably not. Also, my main fic is super obviously mine, so I probably won't be doing the whole 'guess which yuletide fic I wrote' thing this year, since I'm pretty sure it couldn't be any more obviously written by me if it had my name on it. ANYWAY I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT YULETIDE THOUGH. AND THEN FESTIVIDS IN JANUARY. SO GREAT.
amathela: ([comics] carol + flying = otp)
Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] summerstorm and [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster!

Basically everything Marvel's doing right now is making me very, very excited. First they announced the new Ms Marvel title, in which the titular character is Kamala Khan, a Muslim teenager inspired by Captain Marvel to become a superhero. I love everything about that sentence. Carol Corps! More teenage girl superheroes who are heroes because they want to be, thank you very much. (Just keep Captain America away from her.)

And then they announced they'll be making four Netflix series focusing on Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Matt Murdock, followed by a Defenders miniseries. LUKE CAGE. JESSICA JONES!!!! <3 <3 A Jessica Jones series is basically my dream, pretty much second only to She Hulk: Single Female Lawyer. Which, can we make that happen now, please? I mean, if you really want David E. Kelley to make superhero shows, it makes a hell of a lot more sense than Wonder Woman.

Plus there are a bunch of new ongoing series I'm really looking forward to - She-Hulk! Black Widow! New Captain Marvel! FOUR FOR YOU, MARVEL. YOU GO, MARVEL.

In related news, I wrote a thing for [livejournal.com profile] rarecharacters:

Hero For Hire (2586 words) by amathela
Fandom: Marvel 616, Avengers (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Luke Cage/Jessica Jones
Characters: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Carol Danvers
Summary: Jessica Jones: Avenger. Or, not quite. Jessica does the superhero thing, more or less. Also featuring Luke Cage, Stay-At-Home-Dad.

Fandom: DCU - Comicverse, Teen Titans (Comics), Titans (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Characters: Koriand'r, Donna Troy
Summary: Donna and Kory bust up an intergalactic slave trading ring. (With a little help from the rest of the Titans. Arguably.)

The fic written for me was In Perfect Light aka. STEPHANIE BROWN AS A BLUE LANTERN aka. possibly the exchange fic most perfectly tailored to my exact tastes I've ever received. STEPHANIE BROWN. BLUE LANTERN.

[livejournal.com profile] shipswap authors have been revealed! I wrote two fics (my assignment and a pinch hit):

Characters: Scott McCall, Danny Mahealani, Stiles Stilinski

Women In Garbage (2159 words) by amathela
Fandom: Marvel 616, Marvel (Comics), Hawkeye (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

So, that AO3 meme going around:

Sorted by hit count )

Sorted by kudos )

So. Avengers, am I right? And yuletide - I'm not surprised that seven out of my ten highest-kudos fics were yuletide fics, since I tend to hang out in small fandoms year-round, so obviously yuletide is going to provide a decent forum for that. (The only small fandom fic not written for yuletide on that list is Wizards of Waverly Place, which, also not surprising.) What was surprising was Team Building 101 - I had no idea it was that popular, but it makes me super happy. Also No Heroics, since Doom is a downright nonexistent fandom outside of yuletide.

On the other hand, I think the list sorted by hit count is probably more representative of my general body of work (it's a lot of Wizards of Waverly Place and Disney RPF, which, yeah). And there are a few fics that show up on both lists, though I think the second list is more heavily populated by fics I posted directly to AO3 when I wrote them, rather than crossposting long after the fact (which is the case with most of my fics); I don't know if that makes much of a difference, but it seems like maybe a little? And if I had to make a top ten list of my own favourite fics, it's probably look a bit like a hybrid of both lists, with a few other/older fics thrown in, so I guess that's not bad.

One last interesting thing: If you sort by comment threads instead, most of the same fics still pop up, but The Déjà Fait Fate Destabilizer (The Middleman, Ensemble) gets in at number six, so I guess Middleman fans just really like talking about it? Small fandoms represent!
amathela: ([comics] i heart batgirl)
Yuletide reveals are up! I'll be posting my fics here over the next week or so, but in the meantime: I wrote my main assignment, a pinch hit, and six treats, for The Mindy Project, Doom, Arrow, Batgirl (x2), Nightwing, The Non-Adventures of Wonderella, and Super Best Friends Forever.

If We Don't Make It We'll Fake It (6160 words) by amathela
Fandom: Mindy Project
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Danny Castellano/Mindy Lahiri
Characters: Mindy Lahiri, Danny Castellano, Jeremy Reed, Marc Shulman, Morgan Tookers, Betsy Putch
Summary: They can pretend to be friends. It can't possibly be that hard. Right?

This was my main assignment, and I was super excited to get it; I really, really felt like writing some Mindy Project fic for yuletide, and had already bookmarked the request for a potential treat, so it worked out perfectly. (Also, the recipient was my yuletide author last year, who wrote me BJ/Mindy, so that was a nice bit of symmetry.) The Mindy Project really lends itself to an abundance of rom-com tropes, which was reflected in a lot of the requests and fics written this year; I had a pretty sizeable shortlist of ones I was dying to write, but I decided to go with 'pretending to be friends', which I'd wanted to write ever since the episode where they lied about being BFF, and which I thought was a really fun twist on the pretend dating trope. And I think it went pretty well? I mean, it's basically 5000 words of banter followed by makeouts, so.

The rest of the fics )

This was definitely my most productive yuletide, which I blame on having written almost nothing the entire rest of the year. Also, if 2009 was my Disney yuletide, 2012 was definitely my comics, yay! yuletide, which was fitting, given that's what took up a lot of my fannish attention last year.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] ladymercury_10 totally guessed that I wrote The Thrill Can Kill, so, I owe you something fannish! Leave me a prompt/request and I'll try to make you something cool ;)
amathela: ([btr] slap slap kiss)
Since I wrote pretty much nothing all year (until yuletide, when I wrote ALL THE THINGS), I figured I wouldn't restrict this to just fic, because what would be the point? So, things I made posted in 2012:

FANFICTION
Occupied (Diplomatic Immunity, Ensemble)
Heavily Armoured (DCU, Dick/Steph)
Scavenger Hunting Is Extremely Likely Disastrous (S.H.I.E.L.D) (Avengers, Sif/Darcy)
And All I Got Was This Stupid T-Shirt (New Girl, Nick/Jess)
Advanced Practical Stealth Techniques (or, Things That Weren't In The Course Catalogue) (Princess Protection Program, Carter/Rosie)

VIDS
Ultimate Showdown Of Ultimate Destiny (The Middleman, Ensemble)

FANMIXES
Past = Prologue (Doom, John/Sam)
Love In The Time Of Zombies (Doom, John/Sam)
Ever After (Doom, John/Sam)
I'm Not Your Boyfriend (The Office, Ryan/Kelly)

PICSPAMS
How To Solve A Fake Love Triangle (With Llamas) (Big Time Rush, Kendall/Jo)
Big Time Bingo (Big Time Rush, Ensemble)
Sometimes I Just Do Stuff (Big Time Rush, Carlos)
I Guess You're Fans Of The Cliché (Big Time Rush, Ensemble)
amathela: ([misc] mistletoe)
I haven't been participating in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide for nearly as long as a lot of people on my flist, but this looked fun!

My yuletide fic history )
amathela: ([disney] one and the same)
I have had the hardest time trying to write lately, ugh, I swear I used to be able to do this. (The most I've managed lately was about 800 words for the porn battle, and even then I could only write part of a fic.) But! I am super excited about upcoming writing things! First I got my assignment for [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen, which is amazing and so is my recipient, basically my biggest problem there is deciding what [redacted] to write, there are so many great choices and my recipient gave options for basically everything I would want to write BUT I CAN'T WRITE ALL OF THEM I'M PRETTY SURE I HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION.

And then there was [community profile] fandom_helps. Where I won things! And the person who won me wants me to write PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM, YOU GUYS I TOTALLY GOT THIS. Disney backslide: Totally in progress. And I know I watched it on New Years but OOPS, I THINK IT'S TIME TO REWATCH ALREADY ONLY FOR FIC PURPOSES OBVIOUSLY, UGH MY LIFE IS SO HARD. Maybe this time without the drinking game?

... Oh, who am I kidding, the only thing better than princessing it up is drunk princessing it up, THE REST OF MY DAY IS TOTALLY SORTED.
amathela: ([disney] it'll last longer)
[community profile] fandom_helps is open for bidding! I'm offering to write fic of at least 1000 words (though, knowing me, it'll almost certainly be way longer) in Wizards of Waverly Place, Big Time Rush, Victorious, Disney RPF, Miss Match, Hart of Dixie, Princess Protection Program, She's The Man, Rookie Blue, or Doom; crossovers and other fandoms are negotiable, but basically, you guys probably know what I can write, and if not, feel free to ask! (Although: If it's a currently airing show not on the list, I am probably not caught up on it.) Bidding goes until 11:30pm EST on February 21st, and all proceeds go to Planned Parenthood.

So, apparently all I needed to get me to start writing fic again was a ridiculous Canadian cop show? IDEK, I am not complaining. Anyway, I wrote seven fics in three fandoms (Rookie Blue, Stargate Atlantis, and Everwood), around 21,000 words in total. (In comparison: I posted four fics in the previous six months, most of which were written way before that.)

Things You Can't Learn From Books (Everwood - Ephram/Madison - R - 1661 words) It's not exactly guaranteed privacy, but it's been a while since they've seen anyone, so he's not that surprised when Madison kisses him. Well, maybe a little. Spoilers up to episode 2:12 - Controlling Interest.

31 Flavours (Rookie Blue - Chris/Gail/Dov - PG-13 - 1256 words) Dov and Gail have a Serious Disagreement on the topic of ice cream.

A Series Of (Un)fortunate Events (Rookie Blue - Chris/Gail/Dov - PG-13 - 8286 words) Dov doesn't notice that Gail has moved in for almost a week. Spoilers up to episode 2:1 - Butterflies.

For All My Crimes Of Self Defense (Rookie Blue - Chris/Gail - NC-17 - 2631 words) Chris and Gail go undercover for an operation. Spoilers up to episode 1:10 - Big Nickel.

Observe And Report (Rookie Blue - Dov/Gail - R - 1249 words) Maybe they make out a little while they're on surveillance. Spoilers up to episode 1:13 - Takedown.

Then All That You Built Will Come Tumbling Down (Rookie Blue - Dov/Gail - R - 2065 words) Dov, Gail, and horses. (It's not as romantic as he'd like it to be.) Spoilers up to episode 2:9 - Brotherhood.

Spies Like Us (Stargate Atlantis - John/Teyla - R - 4359 words) Lorne and his team are compromised, and it's up to John and Teyla to rescue them.

I also posted a fanmix and two picspams (both Rookie Blue, obviously). All while being super busy this month! So basically: ROOKIE BLUE, NEVER LEAVE ME.
amathela: ([rb] shag?)
Right now I'm about 4000 words into a Rookie Blue OT3 fic, which at the moment is pretty much entirely composed of Gail and Dov bickering and Chris being adorable and/or vaguely chagrined at them. It's possibly the most pointless thing I've ever written, but at the same time I love it so much.

Also, while we're here, can we please talk about the promo for the next episode? Spoilers under the cut )
amathela: ([p&r] april)
I cannot believe my holidays are almost over, I have done literally almost nothing. Why do I always use my break to sign up for ficathons I know I'm not going to get finished early?

ANYWAY, THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING WITH MY BREAK.

1. REWATCHING ONE TREE HILL, WHAT IS EVEN MY LIFE? STILL LIKE CHRIS KELLER. STILL WANT TO MARRY DANNEEL. I cannot be the only person on the internet who loves her and couldn't care less about her husband, right?

2. Rewatching Farscape (currently on hiatus after S1, see above). Still awesome. Still love everyone.

3. Reading comics, Emma Frost is the best thing in my life.

3a. Watching X-Men: First Class, having my heart broken at how not awesome Emma was. Otherwise pretty cool; Mystique is consistently my favourite thing about the movieverse.

4. Watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two, v. brief super shallow nonspoilery reaction )

5. READING AWESOME YA LIT, WHICH IS WHAT I REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT IN THIS POST.

5a. HEX HALL. Seriously, if you're in the mood for a YA book that isn't all angst and depressingness and dystopias all the time, read this book. It is super fun! Plus, the main couple is actually friends first, it is really great, plus REALLY FANTASTIC (if disappointingly infrequent) MAKEOUTS, I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. AND SHE HAS AN ACTUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HER FEMALE BFF, WHO IS GAY AND LOVES PINK, and I don't know what the general consensus is on Elodie but I loved her. There is also a sequel, Demonglass, and the third book is coming out in March. But don't wait until then, come read it now!

5b. DIVERGENT ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥. Okay, so this one actually is YA dystopia (it's very Hunger Games), but I'd still recommend giving it a shot even if you're sick of those, because I LOVED IT AND I NEED PEOPLE TO COME TALK ABOUT IT WITH ME. FOUR!!!! SERIOUSLY HE IS SO AMAZING, AND SO IS TRIS (WHO IS THE MAIN CHARACTER), AND I SHIP THEM LIKE CRAZY, AND BASICALLY IT IS SUPER AMAZING GO READ IT RIGHT NOW.

6. Updating my userpics, I FINALLY HAVE PARKS AND REC AND HAPPY ENDINGS AND GAME OF THRONES ICONS. Speaking of Game of Thrones, I may have to make a separate post about that later, this is already pretty long.
amathela: ([firefly] jayne)
Okay, so, I actually do remember saying I wasn't going to up and vanish again this year. But! Technically I haven't been gone, just not posting a lot, I'm still up to date on my friends list etc. So, since I haven't been active enough to post one of these in a while, here's a roundup of everything I've been up to since January (hint: not a lot).

Under Covers (Covert Affairs - Annie, Auggie - PG - 3058 words) Auggie's sick (but not if you ask him). Annie's playing nurse (but not if you ask her).

Dictionaries For Dummies (Sexicon Remix) (Glee - Brittany/Santana - R - 1341 words) Four words Brittany doesn't know (and one she kind of does).

Set Fire To This Town (The West Wing - Josh/Donna - NC-17 - 4657 words) What's a girl like you doing in a place like this? Spoilers up to episode 6:15 - Freedonia.

Space Invaders (Wizards of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG-13 - 16,945 words) Justin was right. (Of course.) Which sucks for Alex. Especially since it means aliens are now on their way to Earth, and, oh yeah, they want to destroy the world. So, someone should probably stop them? Spoilers up to episode 4:1 - Alex Tells The World.

... and a vid:

Don't Stop Movin' (Primeval, Ensemble) Team ARC = awesome. (Mostly.)

Firstly: OMG West Wing fic. No, I'm not going through a fannish resurgence, just posting fic I wrote ... three or so years ago? I have no idea why I didn't post it at the time, but oh well, it's done now. (I actually have more of these somewhere, I think, but since they're just comment fics I'll probably leave them.)

Secondly: Accomplishments, yay! For a while there I legit wasn't sure I'd actually finish my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fic (the horrors!), but I pulled through. Note to self: procrastination does not work on big bangs. I also managed to get my [livejournal.com profile] helpbrazil2011 fic done, which is of the good; I actually had a bit of a mixed experience with charity auctions this time around, since my [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction bidder never got back to me, nor did one of the people whose fic I won, but I guess that kind of thing happens. The fic I did end up getting, however, was fantastic - [livejournal.com profile] lotus0kid wrote me Better Off Ted fic, and you should totally read it if you're into that kind of thing (aka. the kind of thing that is amazing).

And I wrote a pinch hit for remix, which was fun, since I talked myself out of actually signing up this time around (disappointing, but realistically a very good idea). I'm totally doing [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon, though.

Thirdly: I signed up for [community profile] femslash11! Which should be okay, since I have holidays coming up in a few weeks, and I really love this ficathon. Also, if there's anybody out there who shares my fandoms (*cough* Sonny With a Chance) and wanted to maybe sign up too, that would be okay. Or whatever.
amathela: ([oth] zero is not a size)
Remix Redux is currently hosting Remix Madness 2011 - my opt-in post is here. I didn't participate in remix proper this year, but I did pick up a last minute pinch hit (apparently, multitasking on fic commitments makes me more productive?); I may or may not end up writing anything for madness, but if you want to remix anything of mine, as always, go ahead :)

In other news, Nikita is amazing, Happy Endings is surprisingly delightful (I want to marry Max and Penny ♥), and I'm still behind on The Vampire Diaries. And Ke$ha was on Victorious, I think I legitimately love her? (I blame James Van Der Beek.) Which makes me sad that the 3w4dw small fandom kink meme isn't getting much love; I want all the kinky Beck/Jade fic ever, and I would not say no to Beck/Jade/Ke$ha. Even though nobody is going to write that ever. (Note to self: It's never too early to start putting together yuletide requests.)
amathela: ([victorious] hollywood arts)
So, remember back when I said I wasn't going to disappear for months at a time again? Yeah, that didn't work out so much. And I can't promise it won't happen again, but I'm going to make an effort to at least keep up with my friends list (I managed to get up to ?skip=1000 before LJ wouldn't let me go back any further, and there were still unread posts before that). Basically, I miss fandom like crazy. But, stuff I have been doing lately:

+ Grad school. This is, like, 95% of my life lately. Ugh.

+ Volunteer jobs (x2). Super fun, but between these and school and having an actual social life, I really haven't had time for anything else.

+ Trying to finish existing fic commitments. My [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fic is finished and sent in and ready to post (yay!); [livejournal.com profile] helpbrazil2011 not so much, but I'm working on it. Ugh, major guilt.

+ Watching Victorious. Guys, I think Beck/Jade is my new OTP, they are so amazing. If anybody out there actually watches this, come squee with me.

That's about it. Yeah, my life is super boring. But now I'm (finally!) on break, so I have about a week to get things done before I'm swamped again. I can do this! Right?
amathela: ([disney] everything is not what it seems)
It's been a really long time since I've done one of these - um, yay for yuletide? I ended up writing (or rather, posting) five fics in January, in five different fandoms - Legend of the Seeker, Make It or Break It, Parks & Rec, Snow White: A Tale of Terror, and Wizards of Waverly Place - for a total of ~13,000 words.

Sex Is Not The Enemy (But You Still Are) (Legend Of The Seeker - Cara/Kahlan - PG-13 - 700 words) Kahlan meets Cara her very first day of college. It doesn't exactly go well.

Team Drama (Make It Or Break It - Ensemble - PG - 5990 words) It's war between the Rock girls and Ellen Beals. Spoilers up to episode 2:10 - At The Edge Of The Worlds.

She Thinks She's The Dispassionate One (Parks And Recreation - Ron/April - R - 1689 words) The Pawnee Government Ball. Super exciting. Making out with your boss. Super appropriate.

Conjure Hell Is All I Do (Snow White: A Tale Of Terror - Will/Lilli - R - 1640 words) Will has nightmares, and Lilli seeks to comfort him.

Amusement Shark Rides (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Alex/Harper - PG - 2708 words) Alex tries not to use magic. And fails. Spoilers up to episode 4:3 - Lucky Charmed.

In other news, I'm panicking a little over my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fic; I'm about 12,500 words in, but I still have a few scenes to go before the draft is finished and I'm going out of town this weekend, which means I only have today and maybe tomorrow to fill them in. Well, I'll be happy if I can write *something* for them, even if it's crap, and revise heavily during the editing period. (I meant to write heaps yesterday, but I just got a kindle app for my computer and I spent all day reading ebooks instead, oops!) Also, I know what I'm writing for my [livejournal.com profile] helpbrazil2011 fic and it should be a lot of fun, so at least there's that.
