What's fun about a party?
I threatened promised to post about Make It or Break It, and here it is: I just watched the mid-season finale!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Okay, with words this time: I have no idea why I love this show, or how I love it this much, but I'm okay with that. BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME, OKAY, HATERS TO THE LEFT. CASE IN POINT: IN THE SECOND EPISODE THEY ARE AT A GAS STATION AND THERE IS A ~GANG OR SOMETHING, AND IT IS SUPPOSEDLY THREATENING BUT THEN THE SITUATION IS RESOLVED WHEN THE GIRLS DO SOME REALLY IMPRESSIVE BACKFLIPS AT THEM.
IN CASE YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, HERE, I UPLOADED IT FOR YOU:
IF YOU HAVE TO STOP READING NOW TO GO WATCH EVERY EPISODE OF MAKE IT OR BREAK IT YOU CAN FIND, THAT'S OKAY, I UNDERSTAND.
Seriously, though. The show might think it's about Emily, but it's so not: it's totally about Payson, who is my Very Favourite Ever. She's strong and focused and determined, and adorable when she smiles. (Which is more often than you'd think, given the first half of season one.) And, more importantly, it's about girls - and, yes, it has the requisite boy drama and bitchiness and backstabbing, but the relationships between the four main girls (and, to a lesser extent, their mothers) are front and centre. And - you guys, it's kind of like Centre Stage: The Series (if everyone in Centre Stage was sixteen and also did gymnastics instead of ballet) by way of Gossip Girl, complete with the spoilt rich girl who just wants to be ~loved, preferably by her best friend. And, okay, I realise this doesn't exactly make it sound good, but it's not - it's ridiculous and has gymnastics and girls and drama, and if you like any of those things, you should give it a shot.
(And if you feel like maybe you should ship Sasha/Payson, I'm just saying - you should totally do that.)
Back on point! The mid-season finale was just - well, it was ridiculous and dramatic and a little heartbreaking, and I loved it. And - after most shows do the whole student-teacher (or gymnast-coach, whatever) crush thing, they, IDK, ease up on the tension a little? Put the characters in fewer potentially compromising situations? Stop writing their scenes like thinly-veiled metaphors for a romantic relationship? I AM VERY HAPPY TO SAY THAT MAKE IT OR BREAK IT HAS DONE NONE OF THOSE THINGS. In fact, I'm pretty sure Sasha and Payson have only got more shippy since she kissed him - which I wasn't even sure was possible, what with all the romantic dates to the ballet and everything. And I honestly never thought an episode where Sasha said "I love you" to someone else would make me this happy, BUT, LET'S RECAP:
Despite the entiregymnastics world thinking they're having some degree of inappropriate relationship, Sasha vows to never, ever leave Payson, and asks for her parents' permission to date her keep training her one-on-one in private. At first her father is concerned, but after Payson tells him what a good boyfriend coach Sasha is, he gives them his blessing. And then he shakes hands with Sasha and gives her away, and rents them a house gym. So - they're pretty much married now, right? After all, he did give her a promise ring gold medal. (Which is WAY BETTER, if you ask me.) AND THEN HE LEAVES, BUT NOT WITHOUT LEAVING A HEARTFELT PERSONAL LETTER FOR PAYSON. Not, I should point out (but probably don't have to), for anybody else.
Also - he leaves because, according to him, he should be helping the girls, not hurting them. And he says this as Kaylie is being carried out, but - he didn't hurt Kaylie. He noticed her weight, and her training, and he went to her parents and tried to convince them she was in trouble. So, her fall? Totally not his fault, and he knows it. And Emily getting arrested certainly wasn't his fault, and Lauren's probably happier than she's been since she was five years old and she and her mother wore matching leotards, so - who, exactly, is he in danger of hurting? Especially since they mostly cleared up the whole relationship/rumours thing? OH, RIGHT, PAYSON. BECAUSE MAYBE HER CRUSH ISN'T SO ONE-SIDED, AFTER ALL. (Okay, fine, I'll admit to having my shipper goggles on really tight. But if that's not the case, I honestly have no idea where half of the writing - or the acting - of Sasha is coming from.)
AND I ALMOST COMPLETELY FORGOT TO MENTION HOW GOD APPARENTLY SHIPS STEVE/SUMMER, I GUESS SASHA IS SINGLE NOW? I - FEEL LIKE I SHOULD BE HORRIFIED BY THE RIDICULOUSNESS OF THIS OR SOMETHING, BUT WHATEVER, I'M GOING TO ROLL WITH IT.
I think I'm going to have to do a picspam: Payson Keeler, Look At Her Face, She Is Adorable. Or maybe: You Should Ship Sasha/Payson, The Subtext (And, Occasionally, Maintext) Commands You. And somebody should be making Make It or Break It vids, there is lots of flipping and stuff, it could be cool? And there should be more than, like, a dozen Sasha/Payson fics out there, maybe I should fix that? But, in the meantime, a couple of recs:
Going For The Gold by
monimala (Sasha/Payson, PG-13) Sasha is wooing Payson. Payson is dating Sasha. Where do they go from here? Adorable post-"What Are You Made Of" fic, where Sasha realises that, hey, maybe taking a girl to a romantic night out at the ballet is kind of like dating her.
Not Just Yet, But Almost by JenniferCarolyn (Sasha/Payson, PG-13, some outtakes rated R) They stayed late at the gym one night, perfecting Payson's new floor routine, but a small celebratory kiss begins to mean so much more. Their chemistry is undeniable and it's only their circumstances that keep them apart. This is a WIP, and usually I don't even read those until they're finished, but this one is so worth it. It's all about Sasha and Payson and their ~secret relationship, and it's wonderful.
