Yuletide talk 'n such

I guess this is as good a time as any to talk about what I wrote for [community profile] yuletide?

(Mostly because, AHAHAHA, I just went to update my fic masterlist and LJ rejected it because the post was too big. I refuse to believe that this means I have written too much fic. Anyway, most of my fic is still listed at the original post, but I had to move crossovers and RPF to a new post. Hopefully that will buy me some time - maybe a lot of time, if I write as little this year as I did last year.)

BUT ANYWAY. I wrote three fics for [community profile] yuletide:

Sex Is Not The Enemy (But You Still Are) (Legend Of The Seeker - Cara/Kahlan - PG-13 - 700 words) Kahlan meets Cara her very first day of college. It doesn't exactly go well.

Team Drama (Make It Or Break It - Ensemble - PG - 5990 words) It's war between the Rock girls and Ellen Beals. Spoilers up to episode 2:10 - At The Edge Of The Worlds.

She Thinks She's The Dispassionate One (Parks And Recreation - Ron/April - R - 1689 words) The Pawnee Government Ball. Super exciting. Making out with your boss. Super appropriate.

Team Drama was my main assignment, so I ended up writing and receiving MIOBI fic this year. Which made me happy because, let's face it, I got a little obsessive about that show towards the end of last year, WHAT IS EVEN MY LIFE? Anyway, the fic was a lot of fun to write (and pretty quick, which is lucky, because I was ridiculously busy up until early-mid December), with the only snag being that my recipient specifically asked for no Sasha/Payson (actually, no pairing Sasha or Marty with any of the girls). Which throws out about 98% of everything I want to write for this fandom. She also asked for possible femslash, which I totally could have done - except, the only Payson femslash pairing I really ship is Payson/Kelly, and I didn't know if she'd want that, so I left it gen.

Apart from that, it was really an excellent match for me - someone who loves Payson (♥), and all the girls, and apart from the Sasha/Payson thing, I feel like our interests lined up pretty well. I initially toyed with the idea of writing pre-series fic based on one of the more specific prompts my recipient left, but that somehow morphed into mid-S2 prank war fic, which - did not actually end up all that focused on the pranks? Which is a good thing, I feel like I was able to write something silly and fun but still let Payson be her usual serious, determined self.

She Thinks She's The Dispassionate One was a treat I picked up from my flist (obviously!), and I wrote it - actually over the course of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, in between sleeping and unwrapping presents and going to two separate family gatherings, but altogether in maybe an hour and a half or so. And, man, I feel like I should not have had as much fun writing it as I did? At first it was kind of an experiment, like, there's no way I can probably write this, but what the hell, I want to give it a shot. And then suddenly I was in the middle of a fic and it was actually super easy, so I figured, fuck it, I guess Ron/April is just awesome. (I think the fact that there were, like, four different Ron/April fics this Yuletide backs me up here.) Anyway, I blame [personal profile] annakovsky's prompt/letter for being so awesome, THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD WRITE REALLY RIDICULOUS AND DETAILED YULETIDE LETTERS, YOU WILL GET REALLY RIDICULOUS AND SHINY THINGS IN RETURN.

Also, I think the combined efforts of the people who wrote Ron/April for Yuletide made a decent go at covering all the clichés (like, ever), but I'm pretty sure we could drag up some more. If we really tried.

Sex Is Not The Enemy (But You Still Are) was my second treat, and I'll admit, I was basically like, damn, I really want to write some femslash, so I trawled ALL THE REQUESTS looking for awesome things, and stopped on Cara/Kahlan. And then, because AUs are awesome, I wrote this. I really feel like it could have been a way longer fic, but I think it stands pretty well on its own as a glimpse into another 'verse. Where Cara and Kahlan make out all the time and Cara still wears leather and sometimes has secret ~feelings. Basically, it comfirmed for me that high school and college AUs are ridiculous, shiny crack, and I want all of them.

Speaking of awesome holiday exchanges - I actually finished (and uploaded) my [community profile] festivids assignment! This is a super big deal, because I have never managed to finish a whole vid before, and I spent a lot of time really thinking that I wouldn't be able to finish this one in time. Especially since my holiday plans meant I had to get it uploaded a week early (which, um, I am in New Zealand now? Just FYI, but I will be back on the 9th and obviously I still have internet access) - so, I spent a fair amount of time panicking and trying to decide if I should default, and then I just sat down and vidded the damn thing. And - I am really, super excited. I am even considering maybe making a treat, APPARENTLY THIS VIDDING THING IS REALLY COOL, WHO KNEW? I just really hope my recipient doesn't mind getting a novice vidder, I TRIED MY VERY BEST NOT TO SUCK, I SWEAR.

Man, last year's Yuletide I managed 3 fics, but this year I barely managed the one. :P You done good! And especially good with the Festivid! I was considering defaulting, too, because of so much travel with no opportunity to vid, but I so wanted to do this vid and as of last night (and cutting the song down since the last couple of verses don't fit what I'm trying to do), I should be able to get it done and uploaded Saturday. Husbands take up a lot time! Who knew? ;)

APPARENTLY THIS VIDDING THING IS REALLY COOL

IT IS! IT REALLY, REALLY IS!
