Yuletide meme

I haven't been participating in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide for nearly as long as a lot of people on my flist, but this looked fun!

2008

Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Farscape RPF - Ben Browder/Claudia Black - R - 3500 words) It's a good thing, he thinks, that John is supposed to be in love with Aeryn, or people might start asking questions. (aka. Five outfits Ben and Claudia wear, in varying degrees of ridiculousness.)

My first year doing yuletide! I also signed up for prettylightsfic that year, and was assigned the same recipient for both exchanges; she asked for Ben/Claudia for both, and I was almost tempted to write it for both exchanges, but I ended up going a different route to shake things up.

I ended up getting two BJ/Mindy fic written for me, which were both amazing, so this was pretty much the RPF PAIRINGS OF MY HEART yuletide.

If You Can't Stand The Heat, Don't Set Yourself On Fire (Psych - Shawn/Juliet - PG - 2515 words) A heat wave hits Santa Barbara. A crime wave isn't far behind.

I wrote this as a New Year's Resolution fic in 2009, in kind of a weird way - I auctioned off a fic to charity and was asked to write this, though it wasn't he requester's prompt and, AFAIK, they don't even know each other. IDEK, maybe they just thought it was a great prompt? It wasn't particularly specific, though, so I'm not sure why they didn't just adapt it into their own request. Anyway, the person whose request it was never commented, and the person who asked me to write it only commented belatedly after it was announced in the yuletide comm, so, whatever. Just one of those bizarre things, I guess.

2009

Mnemonic Devices To Help You Remember How To Spell 'Mnemonic Devices' (Wizards of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG - 3470 words) She finds sticky notes in four different books, folded pages in two, and even notes scrawled in the margins of something she thinks must have been one of their dad's old magic books.

This is still probably my favourite thing I've written for yuletide; since it was written for a request, I tried for a fairly different tone than most of my WOWP fics, and I think I pulled it off (though it was still guessed my someone on my flist). This was also probably my favourite yuletide year to date; not surprising, since 2009 was my Big Disney Year, and it was also my Big Disney Yuletide. I ... like to do things thematically, apparently?

Everything Is Not What It Seems (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 1928 words) They're being stealth. (Or, the art of keeping a relationship secret when your boyfriend wouldn't know subtlety if it hit him over the head. Repeatedly.)

... and this was probably my second favourite thing I've written for yuletide. It's also pretty full of references an in-jokes to things that were happening at the time (various interviews, things they were tweeting, the Emmys!), so I'm not sure how accessible it is to someone who wasn't super into the fandom? But I was, and so were most of the people I knew, including the recipient, so that worked out fine.

To Face Unafraid The Plans That We've Made (Disney RPF - Demi Lovato/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 1656 words) "So," Demi says. "There's a dance."

And this was probably the most fun thing I've ever written for yuletide. It's also, of all the fics I've written, the only one that could only ever have been written for one specific person. It was a bit of a gamble, since I was writing in [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness' fic 'verse without permission, but a) I was pretty sure she would be okay with it, and b) I would have totally ruined the surprise by asking, so I just went for it. And she totally guessed that I wrote it, so I guess I wasn't being super stealthy, but I'm okay with that.

Our Faces Split The Coast In Half (Princess Protection Program - Carter/Rosie - PG-13 - 784 words) Rosie decides to show Carter around Costa Luna.

To be totally honest, I mostly wrote this one for the symmetry? But also because Princess Protection Program is amazing, and I really wanted to write it.

The Greatest Adventure In The History Of Basic Cable (Tin Man - Cain/DG - PG-13 - 9080 words) Sometimes adventures have a way of finding themselves.

I totally forgot this was a New Year's Resolution, but I don't think the recipient ever commented on it? Which makes me 0 for 2 on NYR fics, sadly. This was super fun to write, though, so I can't say I really care.

2010

Team Drama (Make It or Break It - Ensemble - PG - 5990 words) It's war between the Rock girls and Ellen Beals.

My recipient asked for gen or femslash, but I wasn't sure if she liked my pairing of choice (Payson/Kelly), so I went with gen to be safe. (And yeah, I know I could have asked, but gen worked just as well, so it wasn't a big deal). Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and I ended up receiving MIOBI fic, too, which pretty accurately reflected my fannish tastes that year.

She Thinks She's The Dispassionate One (Parks & Recreation - Ron/April - R - 1689 words) The Pawnee Government Ball. Super exciting. Making out with your boss. Super appropriate.

REMEMBER WHEN EVERYBODY WROTE RON/APRIL FOR YULETIDE? That was pretty great. It just goes to show the power of writing an amazing prompt.

Sex Is Not The Enemy (But You Still Are) (Legend of the Seeker - Cara/Kahlan - PG-13 - 700 words) Kahlan meets Cara her very first day of college. It doesn't exactly go well.

This is more like an AU snippet than an entire AU, but I think it's a pretty fun one. Rival sororities! Secret relationships! Dodgeball!

2011

Occupied (Diplomatic Immunity - Ensemble - PG-13 - 3209 words) Leilani starts an Occupy Fe'ausi movement. Chaos ensues. (Obviously.)

aka. The year I went out of town for Christmas, so I only write one fic. (And then it was The Year I Forgot How To Write, so no NYR.) Probably my most low-key yuletide in a lot of ways; it's definitely the smallest fandom I've written, so I was pleasantly surprised to get any comments from people who weren't the recipient.

2012

???????????

So far, I've written my assignment fic and three full-length treats, and I'm hoping to get at least one more treat done. So far it's looking to be probably my most productive yuletide, which I was definitely not expecting given my fic output this year, but I guess sometimes things work out like that?
