Nope :P In fact, I'm totally stoked. I've thought the same thing about other people from time to time, so it's awesome to have somebody do the same to me.
Yeah, I definitely know the feeling. I tend to grab people if I see them and I'm like, "I KNOW I like this person!" It makes for an interesting flist, at least.
What's weird is that we have almost no interests in common that you've listed, so usually that deterrs me a bit, but you like HP (obviously) and RP, so that was enough to seal the deal for me. ^^;
Sorry, geeking out here a little. I think I shouldn't have had that last glass of pop. Oops. ^^
... I obviously haven't been around fandom long enough, because I have absolutely no idea who RP is.
I'm only in a couple of games at the moment: Age of Glory (http://www.ageofglory.net) (non-HP) and Hogwarts (http://s15.invisionfree.com/hsww/) (HP, original characters), both of which I run. I actually wouldn't mind joining a journal-based game or two, but I have to get caught up in those two first ...
Oh, no, it's not an actual ship. XD I just read it as a ship, when it isn't. ^^ Harry Potter + Roleplay = OTP. XD Sorry, that's what I was getting at. ^^
I tried journal-based RP, but I couldn't really get used to it. I've never done forum RP, either, actually. :O I play on a MOO, which I've been on for about for years. It's my baby. <3 It's a little different, but oh, how I lurve it so. I house all my logs and things over at theconfectioner if you're interested. XD I might check out your original characters game, because I do like me some OCs!
Oh, duh. Now I'm the one who's totally space-y. And yes, please do - it's not super active at the moment, mostly because I haven't been posting (see what I said about lack of willpower? :P), but it's not disappearing any time soon.
Hee, okay. ^^ I'll look into it after things settle into IC summer on my game. Although, I don't know whether that'll mean slowing down, since we'll be all a'flitter with preparations for the sorting. ^^ (As usual. XD)
The time period is modern-day (so, about a decade after the books). It's not really plot-based so much as just day-to-day student stuff; at least for now, though I'm looking forward to it (slowly) expanding as it gets bigger.
Cool! I might try it out. ^^; I'd probably just port over one of my characters from HogwartsMOO, though, and change the time period. We're about to head into the 1930's on that game, so it'd be an interesting change. I could see if I can even hack modern RP anymore. It's been absolutely ages since I even tried! I've bookmarked it for now. It looks interesting, the way you do things there. I'm going to peruse things a little while longer before I decide.
The big question is, though, which character would I pick? Oh no! XD Maybe a new one, after all. Hah. I lose.
Thanks :) I do that a lot with RPs; I have a whole section in my bookmarks for RPs I'm not a member of - some I'm considering joining, and others just because I like seeing what others are doing. I'm such a voyeur >.>
How else are you to know if you'll enjoy it? :O That's the hard thing about MOOs, is that it's hard to know, unless you hang out as a guest during peak hours or something. I tend to read their logs and see if I like them. Very handy, in that way.
If you ever want to try my game out, let me know; I can help with some things that tend to be confusing at first, and explain, well, anything you need to know. XD (And, god, don't look up the logs from bad_rpers_suck. All the bad RPers highlighted have left, hah.)
Thanks, I will :) I'm not really much of a real time/instant RPer (which is why I like forum games; even journal games always seem really fast-paced to me, and I like being able to take my time over a thread), but if I ever get curious, I'll definitely check it out. And I might definitely read the logs, because that timeframe sounds really neat.
Yeah, the immediate stuff does take time to get used to. I came to prefer it after a while, because it almost feels like you're living it, y'know? I love the time period on the game, though. I think that's what's kept me there. It's not something you see often. Now... I believe I need to go and conjure up some names, because lord knows I need more names and characters floating around my addled brain. ^^
Oh, thank god somebody else does that! I have lists of names and artwork I want to use for future characters, even though I have way too many already. I'm constantly coming up with new character ideas; even though I know I don't have time for more, it's so much fun, it's like a compulsion.
I have these super extensive family trees for my characters, mostly so that I can figure out where they came from and why they are the way they are. But it never hurts to have masses of NPCs to pull up or bring up whenever I need them.
I also write down names all the time, because coming up with a name, I usually can get a general idea of what I want the character to be like. ^^; It's REALLY great for the story I'm writing, because even the minor characters have a characterization in my head.
Yes, I toally do that!! I have whole pieces of paper filled with names, and all my characters have these NPC relationships (that, sometimes, I can't help bringing into the game; one of my boyfriend's main characters started off as a throwaway mention in one of my character's posts, and he ended up creating and fleshing out the character).
That's freaking awesome. (Aside: Dang, I wish I could get my boyfriend into RP. That'd be wicked. We could RULE THE WOOOOOORLD--- *ahem* Right.)
I don't believe in throwaway characters, though. ^^ If given the chance, they can ALL be useful! Even the ones that I've failed to develop in the right way, I'll usually reuse facets of them and have them reincarnate somehow. Which is pretty awesome, I think. XD
I ALSO HAVE PAPERS FILLED WITH NAMES. My favorite site, which I've used ever since I started at HogMOO, is behindthename.com, because, I dunno. Nostalgia. And also, it has some neat categorizations, and a random name generator, which I also like to use when I'm in need of inspiration and the alphabetical listings aren't dong me any good. ^^

Haha! Actually, my boyfriend's my co-admin at both my sites, so I really couldn't do it without him. He makes an awesome "bad cop" to my "good cop."
And ... well, it's wasn't technically a throwaway character, since he was a pretty important NPC, but I guess I assumed that when we filled the position, someone would make a new character and explain the succession, rather than rolling with my idea; it was very awesome.
That's awesome! I loooove it when stuff like that can happen, rather than having to fabricate reasons for things. After all, life will happen and alter the paths of the RPG, which is what makes things interesting, but also can be insaaaanely frustrating. Ah, well, such is life, and we must take the good AND the bad. I'm glad to know that you could make something good about it. It's pretty awesome. ^^
Curses. Now I have TWO names prodding at me. Shoot. XD I guess I'll have to fuss over them later, though, since gosh. It's getting late!
