TV catch up post, part two

Chuck: 2-2 Chuck vs The Seduction & 2-3 Chuck vs The Break-Up

Bryce! I was so excited to see him at the end of the episode - I know a lot of people on my flist hate him, but he's one of my favourite characters. I'm not overly invested in Chuck/Sarah one way or the other, but still very fun episodes (Julie Cooper!! ♥ ♥ ♥); loved Casey seeing Anna as a potential recruit, and Devon and Ellie, and Bryce, and all their wacky spy hijinks. Definitely enjoying the show a lot this season.

Heroes: 3-5 Angels And Monsters

I really loved this episode, but there were also a couple of things that really bothered me, so I'll get them out of the way. First, I really hope we get to see real, not gross and buggy!Mohinder again one of these days; him imprisoning Maya is creepy as hell, and while she's hardly one of my favourite characters, I rally don't want to see her killed or used as a test subject. Secondly, and more importantly, I cannot begin to articulate the levels of DO NOT WANT in Meredith's storyline. I've had enough skeevy sexual situations (and metaphors for skeevy sexual situations) for my female characters to last me a really long time, so I really want to see her get out of this, like, yesterday.

Now, onto the good: Nathan/Tracy!! I really loved them together in this episode, and I loved seeing Tracy stand up to Angela. Also loved Claire going after Stephen, and being willing to sit down and listen to his side of the story, and even decide to help him - there's still hope for our Claire yet. Sylar saving her was pretty much awesome (must be an uncle thing), and I'm really enjoying his path to "redemption"; as long as he keeps being more snarky and manipulative than emo and angsty, I'm on board. (Also speaking of uncle things: A lot of people pointed out the parallels of Peter looking at the painting of Claire last week vs looking at the paintings after Simone died; funnier, to me, is future!Peter swooping in to save Claire from the train vs Nathan swooping in to save Tracy. Who he then slept with, and possibly married.)

Still not sure where they're going with the whole Pinehearst thing, but the inclusion of Arthur Petrelli could be interesting, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Sarah Connor Chronicles: 2-5 Goodbye To All That

Yay, Derek! I forgot how much I missed him, so it was nice to see an episode focusing on him. Now, if I could just get more episodes with him and Sarah working together and being generally awesome, I'd be happy. I loved the idea of Derek as an instructor; I would have liked to see more of him and John at the school, but what we did get was pretty cool. And yay, Kyle! Sarah's storyline was okay, but it was kinda nice to see her being able to be a mum (or something similar), which she's never really had much chance to do. And, yeah, she might not be very good at it, but she kicks ass at pretty much anything else, so that's good enough for me.

Smallville: 8-4 Instinct & 8-5 Committed

Initially, the fast-tracking of Clark/Lois took me by surprise, but I've come to terms with it. I'm still a little wary of the bulk of the attraction being shown from Lois' POV, which is something that bugs me in supposedly mutual UST relationships, but there are enough hints of it being requited by Clark that I'm okay with it. Loved the alien chick in Instinct - her near-regret about Jimmy, and how much fun she seemed to be having with the whole thing; really loved Clark and Lois going "undercover" in Committed, and the scene in the jewellery store with Oliver was just perfect. I'm even starting to really like Tess, especially whenever she's in a scene with another woman - can she bring the femslash, or what? I'm also really glad the whole Clark/Chloe thing has been pretty much laid to rest, and I'm really enjoying this season overall.

Stargate Atlantis: 5-11 The Lost Tribe

I had really high hopes for the first five minutes of the episode - Teyla! John and Teyla together! And I'm not really sure why Teyla was appointed to stay in charge of Atlantis during a potential military crisis over, say, the military 2IC, but, well. I'm disappointed, if not terribly surprised, that Keller turned Ronon down, and not really sure how I feel about the Asgard - they really like reusing SG-1 elements in SGA, don't they?

Bryce! I was so excited to see him at the end of the episode - I know a lot of people on my flist hate him, but he's one of my favourite characters.

I don't hate Bryce... I just don't get the Bryce love. He was incredibly fun in the Berkley flashbacks, but I don't feel like he's been anything beyond a plot device since then.

I cannot begin to articulate the levels of DO NOT WANT in Meredith's storyline. I've had enough skeevy sexual situations (and metaphors for skeevy sexual situations) for my female characters to last me a really long time, so I really want to see her get out of this, like, yesterday.

All the doubt everyone else is having is making me doubt. I was SO convinced that this plot was going to be Claire and Sandra and Meredith kicking Doyle's ass and getting away from him completely under their own power -- and that's one of the reasons it didn't ping me as being a bad plot. Bad situations=opportunities to kick ass. But now I'm worried. :/

I want to be optimistic about Meredith's storyline, but even the tiny glimpse of her in captivity already was enough to squick me out majorly; I couldn't even watch when he made her kiss him, and I really don't want to think about what we're supposed to assume if Meredith doesn't escape the same night.

Honestly, it was creepier to me because it didn't seem sexual at all to me. It was a grown man playing with dolls like a child, seeing people as playthings. Which isn't the same thing at all, in my mind, as a grown man objectifiying a woman and slavering all over her. There's obviously the domineering personality in both, but one is misogynist by nature, and one isn't.

It was the kiss that pushed it over the edge for me; it was a sexual (if relatively chaste) act, and it seemed to me to imply that was where his intentions lay. And it may not have been intended that way, but it just hit my squicks enormously.

I don't find the kiss sexual, particularly since the way it was done seemed like it was there mostly to highlight the manner of the control (how stilted and robotic it is). The fact that he refers to her as honey (or whichever endearment it was) before hand is skeevier to me. I don't think, on some level, it is supposed to be squicky like that, since there are interviews than essentially refer to Doyle as a "nice guy", so they are trying to put him as that entitled winy guy who doesn't get why girls don't like him. And, obviously, this makes him an unsympathetic villain whose ass I don't mind seeing kicked.
