That was scary
So, what happened was this: I may have, sort of accidentally, started watching Supernatural. Well. A while ago I got season one really cheaply on sale, and I figured I should probably check out this show everyone was so crazy about. And I kinda expected to fall in love with it and everything, because I get fannish about stuff really easily, but it didn't really do anything for me. But then
talumin rented season two, and then he rented season three, and before I knew it, I was watching season four and now I'm all caught up. And ... I think I like it. Like, I wouldn't say I'm in SPN fandom or anything, mostly because I'm not into slash and I don't really care about Sam and Dean's epic angsty brotherly love (yeah, I know - what show am I watching?), and I liked season three way better than seasons one and two, but I like Dean, and I like Jo and Ellen and Bela and Ruby and John and Mary and Bobby and, okay, Sam, and so I guess I watch it now. Anyway.
Episode reaction post, action/sci fi edition:
Chuck: 2-4 Chuck vs The Cougars
DJ Casey! Chuck does Grosse Pointe Blank, which was fun to watch, and I guess it's a good thing that they gave Sarah some backstory, even if they're being deliberately cagey about it. Anyway, lots of fun, and Casey was awesome.
Heroes: 3-6 Dying Of The Light
ADAM!! I wasn't particularly expecting him to come back this season, but I'm a little sad that he was brought back for one episode, only to be killed. I'll miss him :(
cadesama, you were totally right about Meredith's storyline - she, Claire, and Sandra totally kicked ass. Sandra was particularly marvelous, and I really cannot overstate how glad I was that the writers went out of their way to point out that Meredith and Doyle had been sitting up talking all night. And I loved Meredith calling Noah on his unnecessary need to protect Claire at all times. Yay, my girls!
"High five, turtle." Matt and Daphne were sweet, even though I'm kinda "meh" about the pairing. Still, they've got that whole "turtle and the hare" thing going on, which I guess is cute. Having Daphne tell Mohinder off for being evil but not actually attempt to rescue anyone was a nice touch for her characterisation - she's not a villain, but neither is she particularly heroic.
Obviously Ando wasn't dead, and I'm glad he and Hiro managed to smooth over their relationship. And Usutu teaching Hiro a lesson about over-using his abilities was well-deserved, I thought.
Tracy continues to be totally awesome; I'm still not totally over how Niki's storyline was handled, and then ended, in seasons one and two, but as long as Tracy continues to rock, I'm far more likely to be forgiving. I really, really hope she and Nathan manage to escape without too much fuss, because, ew. (And if they could possibly manage to rescue Maya, I'd be extremely grateful.)
Finally, I'm really impressed by how Arthur's power manages to be similar to Sylar and Peter's, and yet totally different. Where Peter mimics and absorbs others' powers and Sylar recreates them (often with the unfortunate side effect of death), Arthur actually steals them, which is very cool. As was his manipulation of Peter in the end - very Petrelli-esque. And it'll be interesting to see Peter without his powers, I think, as well as what happens next.
Sarah Connor Chronicles: 2-6 The Tower Is Tall But The Fall Is Short
This was definitely my favourite episode of the season so far. Last week, we were told that Sarah isn't a very good mother, but this week they showed it, with Sarah not registering (deliberately, or negligently) the signs of John being so very obviously not okay. It's also possibly the first episode that has made me really feel something for John; I'm aware, on an intellectual level, that his life sucks and this is bad, but this week I actually empathised with him, and felt for him. The revelation that he, not Sarah, killed Sarkissian was hardly surprising, but it was handled well, and the impact, even if I'd been expecting it, was much more significant here than it would have been in the premiere.
I also really loved Catherine Weaver's plot. We know, mostly from deleted scenes in the second movie, that T-1000's are "flawed," and we've seen them display what could be emotion - when Robert Patrick's terminator killed the family dog out of what was most likely revenge, and when Catherine, in the season premiere, declared that the man she killed had "pissed her off." Her interactions with Savannah so far have been largely pragmatic, even down to bonding with her, but I wouldn't be surprised if Catherine did start to feel something for her; and at the same time, we have her relationship with the computer, which she seemed to view (as a child) with some affection.
And, obviously, I was very excited to see Kendra - I like Jessie so far, and her storyline slotted neatly into the episode as a whole; I can't wait to see where it's going.
Smallville: 8-6 Prey
I missed Lois (and Oliver), but hero!Clark was definitely a step in the right direction. Loved J'onn - so glad he's sticking around, and he's awesome as a detective - and I really liked his conversation with Clark about identities. I know a lot of people probably don't want Smallville to go the Superman route, but I'm loving the way they're stepping it up so far this season.
Didn't love the Davis/Chloe bits (if nothing else, I think the writers should consider not entirely discarding the notion of letting a relationship build up as opposed to rushing headlong into it - re: Clark/Lois, Oliver/Tess, Davis/Chloe, which are fine individually but are starting to form something of a pattern), but I'm not really a Chloe person, so whatever.
Supernatural: 4-6 Yellow Fever
OMG JENSEN ACKLES YOU GINORMOUS DORK, ILU.

LOL. Indeed! Welcome to the fold. :D I'm not that into the fandom, per se, either, but I do love me some Winchesters.

Sarah Connor Chronicles is very definitely my "replacement" fandom for BSG (not that I'm out of BSG, mind you, it's just that it's kind of nice to branch out into other things). I love all the things going on beneath the surface in that show and that the writers are paying enough attention to the characters that they remember and appropriately deal with things that happened earlier in the timeline.

That seems wise - I have enough people on my flist who are in SPN fandom that I have some idea of what it's like, and I'm at odds with general fandom opinions (even the gen side) enough that I'm not really sure it would be good for me, even if I were so inclined. I'm happy just to watch the show, though :)
I'm definitely enjoying SCC - it's nice to have some sci fi fandoms even when BSG is on hiatus. And considering how twisty everything can get, with the movies and the time travel and the abridged timeline, I think they're doing an excellent job.

Yeah, I'm about the same. I don't really like the idea of them hooking up and didn't like them together in "I Am Become Death", but they are really were cute together in the present.
And it'll be interesting to see Peter without his powers, I think, as well as what happens next.
It'll be very interesting to see how much they've shaped his behavior. Peter has always been sort of borderline crazy, and indulging that by giving him a very, very different perception of reality ought to have a lasting effect of some kind. And losing all those extra senses? That's gotta hurt.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly how I feel - their relationship in the future did nothing for me (in fact, it almost seemed to be deliberately dystopic, with Molly's reactions to Daphne and Matt calling her "your mother," unless it was just poorly realised), but I don't mind them in the present.

Indeed. The only question is - will powerless Peter be more crazy, or less?

I think it was meant to be mildly dystopic, that they could have been happy if the world weren't tearing them apartment with Daphne's job and how many disasters there are because of the powers.
The only question is - will powerless Peter be more crazy, or less?
I would think more, since he no longer has justification for thinking the things he does.
