Set phasers to that other setting

I think I just inadvertently created the best pairing ever: Graham/Nandi (BtVS/Firefly). Y/Y?

Okay, maybe I'm the only one who loves Graham an unreasonable amount. But it's Julie freaking Cooper, okay? She is never not awesome.

I've been loving writing lately. It's amazing what the lack of, say, five or six looming deadlines can do. But I got about 2000 words written today, which I'm very happy with. (Don't look at me like that. Of course it was what I was meant to be writing. Not something totally unrelated. Not at all.)

Changing the subject completely - *ahem* - Star Trek Reboot! It appears I may have been sucked into McCoy/Uhura. I don't even know, man. I really liked Spock/Uhura in the film, but I think it's mostly gone to that 'established relationship, enjoy reading about it, don't feel the pressing need to seek out fic' place in my head. I like Kirk/McCoy a lot, and I find the idea of Sulu/Chekov kind of enchanting. And ... I like Scotty, also. (Um, some people seem to like pairing him with Gaila? Which is totally okay with me. Gaila/everyone FTW.) But my main fannish devotion seems to have been directed at pretty much any combination of Kirk/McCoy/Uhura/Gaila.

(Yeah, I reject your Spock and substitute my Gaila.)

(I suspect, at this point, my fannish love might go something like Uhura > Gaila > McCoy > Kirk > Sulu > Spock > Scotty > Chekov. Poor Chekov. But I love them all, really.)

I really thought, at first, I might be drawn to Kirk/Uhura in fandom. And I am, just not as a driving force. And for some reason, I love the idea of McCoy/Gaila, but there really isn't much (if any) of it out there. McCoy/Uhura really didn't strike me as being anything more than potentially interesting, maybe, but then ... I started reading fic. And OMG do I ship it. (Like Gaila, pizza, and Kirk: more than everything else, but not to the exclusion of everything else.) Kink meme, I don't know whether to scold you or thank you.

I am happy, however, about the rumours that Nurse Chapel might actually be in the second film. Particularly, I wouldn't mind seeing some McCoy/Chapel; it pings me as something I might be interested in, but so far I've resisted seeking out fic for it, since I'm not familiar with the character (or TOS) at all, and I doubt it would mean much to me at this point. It would definitely be nice to see some more women in the franchise; I adore Uhura, above and beyond the male characters, but I'm always in favour of more women. (And in my head, in case you're wondering, Gaila is TOTALLY NOT DEAD. No matter how precarious her situation was, or how unlikely her survival must seem. Whatever anyone says, she will always be alive and awesome in my head.)

Also Star Trek related, a couple of Kirk/McCoy fic recs:

Second Skin, by anonymous. Lovely and thoughtful are not words that are usually associated with kink memes, but this fic is. It has porn, sure, but mostly it's about Kirk and McCoy's friendship, and especially about what happens when Kirk, after an alien device transforms him into a woman, decides to stay that way. I don't read a lot of genderswap fics, and even fewer that deal with trans issues, but this is fantastic.

A Shocking Turn Of Events, by [personal profile] cordelianne. The Bridge Crew gets a dose of truth pollen. Jim thinks it's awesome. No one else agrees. Except possibly Bones. aka. My current favourite thing ever! I laughed all the way through this, and honestly, I'd start quoting my favourite bits, but that would be all of it, and I don't want to spoil reading it for you. Just ... if you love the Enterprise team at all, and/or wacky mishaps involving alien life forms, you have to read this.
