QUESTIONS

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
WAY, WAY LESS. 19 fics, what is that? I think it's pretty obvious that grad school was kicking my butt this year, but hopefully I'll have adjusted better by next year.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Make It or Break It! I'm glad I was wrong, because past me is stupid, and Make It or Break It is awesome.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Never Kill A Boy On The First Date, by a long shot. Partly because it was my first ever big bang, and I'm super proud of it, but also because it's kind of awesome. Alex is a vampire slayer! Who fights monsters! And sometimes maybe makes out with her brother a little! This is basically all of my interests.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I guess finishing my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang counts as a writing risk, and it definitely paid off - big bangs are awesome, who knew? Also, I wrote some new fandoms for the porn battle, which was fun.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Yes - to actually write some! If I don't completely disappear for weeks or months at a time in 2011 like I did in 2010, I'll be happy.

From my past year of writing, what was ...

My best story

I'm pretty happy with Mnemonic Devices To Help You Remember How To Spell 'Mnemonic Devices', in terms of actually achieving the sort of quiet, understated tension I was going for there.

My most popular story
According to comments on LJ, Never Kill A Boy On The First Date. The Wizards of Waverly Place and Disney RPF fics I wrote for (last year's) [community profile] yuletide were also pretty well received, which makes me happy.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion
Um, none of them? But, okay, I wish Make It or Break It had a bigger fandom, so I'm going to say The No Touching Rule.

Most fun
The Greatest Adventure In The History Of Basic Cable, I think, both in terms of writing it and of being a fun story in general. Wacky adventures FTW! Also, it has the most fun title, so clearly it must be cool.

Sexiest story
I'm actually going to go with Offer Me Alternatives (And I Decline) - it's not an obvious choice, but there's an elegant (and, later, really fucked up) kind of sexiness to it, I think.

Story with the single sweetest moment
From Mnemonic Devices To Help You Remember How To Spell 'Mnemonic Devices':

It's only the first really advanced spell their dad has let her try, after all. What could possibly go wrong?

-

Nothing does, and Alex grins at Justin on the way out, tries not to jump when he presses something into her hand.

Congratulations, the note says, and if he just wrote it, the ink should be smudged, but it isn't.

I don't know, I just love the idea that Justin wrote his 'congratulations' note way in advance, because he genuinely had faith in Alex.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
Probably I Trust You (To Tie Me Up). It's totally not my fault, though - they have crazybadwrong chemistry on the show.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
I'm not sure 'shifted' is the right word, but The No Touching Rule really cemented my love for Lauren, and made me realise that I'm actually super invested in her friendship with Kaylie.

Hardest story to write
It's Not Like The Greeks Invented The Marathon. I was super excited about that fic, and it has some of my favourite things in it (Evan/Casey! Ashleigh and Rebecca being flirty and awesome! The Kappa Taus being ridiculous! Greek event shenanigans!), but, man, it was like pulling teeth. I think it's because I'd just started school, and I got myself all worked up over the deadline, and then about missing the deadline, and there was this whole guilt thing going on. But I'm glad I finished it in the end!

Most unintentionally telling story
In terms of the sheer amount of trivia and RL events and ~whatever I incorporated in the fic, Everything Is Not What It Seems probably says a lot about my ... investment in David/Selena throughout the year. I swear, if you haven't been obsessively following their every move, that fic probably doesn't even make any sense, IDEK.
