Okay, so most of what I posted this month was actually written last year, but most of what I did write this month was for longer fics that haven't been posted yet, so it pretty much evens out. Anyway, I posted nine fics in seven (eight?) fandoms: Wizards of Waverly Place, Disney RPF, Princess Protection Program, Glee RPF, The Office, Dollhouse, and a BtVS/Firefly crossover.

Offer Me Alternatives (And I Decline) (Dollhouse - Dominic/Adelle - PG-13 - 650 words) It's not the end of the world. Spoilers up to season two.

Kiss And Tell (The Office - Ryan/Kelly, Andy/Erin - PG-13 - 937 words) Five kisses that may or may not have happened while filming Male Prima Donna.

Our Faces Split The Coast In Half (Princess Protection Program - Carter/Rosie - PG-13 - 784 words) Rosie decides to show Carter around Costa Luna.

Mnemonic Devices To Help You Remember How To Spell 'Mnemonic Devices' (Wizards Of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG - 3470 words) She finds sticky notes in four different books, folded pages in two, and even notes scrawled in the margins of something she thinks must have been one of their dad's old magic books. Spoilers up to episode 2:5 - Night At The Lazerama.

A Dollar Seventy-Five Won't Buy You Much (In Space) (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Firefly - Graham/Nandi - PG-13 - 265 words) Home is where you lay your head.

Everything Is Not What It Seems (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 1928 words) They're being stealth. (Or, the art of keeping a relationship secret when your boyfriend wouldn't know subtlety if it hit him over the head. Repeatedly.)

To Face Unafraid The Plans That We've Made (Disney RPF - Demi Lovato/Selena Gomez - PG-13 - 1656 words) "So," Demi says. "There's a dance." Part of the DC High 'verse.

Dream Days At The Hotel Existence (Glee RPF - Mark Salling/Dianna Agron - PG-13 - 1172 words) "Don't you have your own room?"

How To Be A Domestic Goddess (Glee RPF - Lea Michele/Dianna Agron - PG-13 - 1733 words) She's majorly, totally, butt-crazy in love with her roommate.

THINGS TO DO IN FEBRUARY:

- Finish the last few scenes of my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang first draft. Edit.
- Write [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic for [livejournal.com profile] juleet.
- Write post-Yuletide fics for [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness and [livejournal.com profile] yo_mtvraps.
- Finish assignment for [community profile] purimgifts.
- Maybe write some Cara/Kahlan for the porn battle.

Also, y'know, start school. But, whatever. Priorities.
amathela: ([greek] evan/casey)
Fannish things I am doing right now:

1. [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auctions are ongoing until January 20th. I love fandom for doing stuff like this. I'm offering to write a fic of at least 5000 words - especially in Wizards of Waverly Place, Disney RPF, etc. but I'm open to requests from other fandoms. The current bid is $20, and my thread is located here if you'd like to bid on fic from me; there are hundreds of things on offer, so you should definitely check out the community if you'd like to help out. (Sadly, I cannot bid on anything right now, but I'm doing what I can.)

2. [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts is open for sign ups until January 19th. I was planning to pare down my ficathon involvement this year, but [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts is my go-to low-stress ficathon - three ficlets (300-1000 words), in any fandom, focusing on characters who are Jewish and/or women and/or persecuted by evil viziers. Anyway, it's always super fun, so I signed up for that again.

3. [livejournal.com profile] chaos_thon is a ficathon based on that fictional TV show meme that was floating around. Which - I had so much fun with that thing, so I'm seriously considering signing up. I'm not entirely sure, yet, if I want to use the one I already did, or come up with something new for the ficathon - help? If you guys wanted to leave any scenarios for fictional TV shows in the comments, I would totally appreciate that. You can also sign up to write something based on your own fictional show (until January 24th), or leave prompts or put your shows up for adoption.

4. I'm (barely) resisting the urge to sign up for an episode at [livejournal.com profile] planetside_c. Also: finishing my [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon fic (at least, the WOWP one - the Disney RPF one is, I think, not going to happen this round), writing fic I owe [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness and [livejournal.com profile] yo_mtvraps, and putting together a small fandom primer for Diplomatic Immunity. I'm totally on top of things. And not overcommitted in any way. Totally.
amathela: ([wowp] caribbean)
I know you guys have all seen this, but I'm boosting the signal anyway: [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. You can offer fic, graphics, physical goods, etc. in exchange for donations to help those in need, or bid on goods offered by other people. If you're interested in making an independent donation, there's also some information on how you can do that.

My thread is here. I'm offering to write a fic of at least 5000 words in Wizards of Waverly Place, Disney RPF, or related fandoms, for a minimum bid of $10. I'll also consider requests to write in any fandom I'm familiar with; you guys know what I'm likely to be able to write, but if you want to make sure I can do it, you can comment here, or email or PM me. I can write genfic, most het and femslash pairings, and a very few boyslash pairings; crossovers, AUs, fusions, etc. are totally welcome, and you can choose the prompt or scenario, as vague or as detailed as you'd like.

Also - obviously - I'm back home :) Fics I've already promised are on their way, and I'm slowly catching up on stuff that's been happening while I've been gone. (I may have missed you guys, a little.)

Had a safe flight, am alive and well. Also, it is cold here. Would somebody please tell New Zealand that it's the middle of summer?

(Today it hailed. A lot.)

I'm tempted to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang. I could do the knight!Demi/princess!Selena fic? I'm still on the fence about it, though. The fact that all fics have to be posted directly to the community seems a little counterintuitive for a big bang - I'll have to remember to stop watching the community before the posting period.

Somebody should run a Disney big bang, I would be all over that.

Also, I found Diplomatic Immunity on DVD, yay! I should do a pimp post later, since it's awesome and you guys should be watching it. I should also be writing, so ... maybe I'll go do that?

Answers to the fandom opinions meme. Includes spoilers for Battlestar Galactica and Legend of the Seeker.

[livejournal.com profile] mfirefly10 asked:

What was your opinion of BSG season 4.5? What did you like/dislike about it? What would you have changed? And finally, did your opinion of 4.5 and the conclusion to the storyline(s) effect your opinion of the series as a whole?

Battlestar Galactica )

[livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness asked:

a) Battle to the death of all the Disney stars, and you can only save one. Who? CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE WISELY, THERE ARE CORRECT ANSWERS.
b) Which is the gay one, Demi or Selena?
c) If you could see any not-already-existing DC RPF AU, what would it be and why?
d) Tell me two thotz you have on Legend of the Seeker, since I'm watching it. :D?

Disney RPF, Legend of the Seeker )

[personal profile] grammarwoman asked:

First-time vs. established relationship stories:

Do you have a preference or tendency to write one over the other? Do you have a preference or tendency (or just notice a trend) to read one over the other? Or do your answers vary by fandom?

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide author reveals are up! I'll be reposting my fics here over the next couple of days, but in the meantime, I wrote:

Mnemonic Devices To Help You Remember How To Spell 'Mnemonic Devices' (Wizards Of Waverly Place, Justin/Alex)

Everything Is Not What It Seems (Disney RPF, David/Selena)

To Face Unafraid The Plans That We've Made (Disney RPF, Demi/Selena)

Our Faces Split The Coast In Half (Princess Protection Program, Carter/Rosie)

SO, THIS YEAR'S THEME, APPARENTLY, WAS SELENA GOMEZ-SHAPED PEOPLE. AND DISNEY, BUT THAT IS HARDLY SURPRISING. I kind of feel like all my fics were really obviously written by me, but, it's Yuletide? With, like, a billion fics, so I'm probably not as obvious as I think I am.

... but, then again, two of my fics were accurately guessed before the reveals, so.

On that note: [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness and [livejournal.com profile] yo_mtvraps both guessed correctly, so, THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU GET TO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT ME TO WRITE. (Except, well, okay, I'm pretty sure I know what I'll be writing for [livejournal.com profile] pirateygoodness.) Fandom, pairing, prompt, scenario, whatever - in this case, specificity is probably good, so go crazy.

My pledge for [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout in 2010:

0 / 200000

Starting word count in 2010 )

SO, OKAY. I SHOULD PROBABLY GET ON THAT. Pretty much everything not listed is sitting at 0 words, but I'm okay with that. 2010 will be the year of finishing things! And also starting things. Whatever, I will write stuff, and it will be awesome.

Yuletide author reveals should be up soon(!), which is very exciting. And in case anyone wanted to make any last minute guesses before the reveal, you can guess what I wrote, and if you guess correctly, I'll write you something. I wrote four fics in three fandoms, and they all have something in common, so. DO WITH THAT WHAT YOU WILL.

I finally put up (and decorated) my Christmas tree today! I know, it's less than a week until Christmas, but the less time it's up, the less time my cat has to eat it, so. I also finished wrapping presents, watched Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, which, shut up, I still love, and then, I wrote stuff! (I love having my holiday ficathon assignments finished early, even if it's only by a couple of days, it makes me feel SUPER ACCOMPLISHED or whatever.)

So, since I'm actually making progress on stuff, I figured I'd do one of those fic check-in things.

Current fics in progress )

So, yeah, I still haven't started my second [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fic, but I do have an idea for it; I'm not sure if it's something I'll actually manage to finish, but AtVS is definitely a go, regardless. And I probably won't be able to finish To Wish Impossible Things by the end of the year, like I would have liked, but I might be able to make some progress on it, and maybe make a concentrated effort once [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang is finished.
amathela: ([wowp] caribbean)
I broke 1000 words on my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic! After I got a solid idea for it, it was actually pretty easy to write, so that's good. And I wrote 1000 words of Demi/Selena fic which is SO COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS, it even has the cheesiest summary ever, like, it could be a blurb from an actual harlequin novel. I'm not sure if should keep it like that or change it to something less cracky, hmmm. It was supposed to be a snippet, but is turning into an actual fic, like, I'm not sure the premise actually warrants it, but whatever. Also, I realised that this is my first ever ridiculous AU, I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF.

Anyway, I'm past the minimum word count on both my holiday ficathon assignments, so I'm feeling good about those. I still need to work a lot more on my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fics if I want to be on track for the halfway point check-in at the end of the month, but I'm pretty confident about the first one, and I can deal with the second one once I have a few less things to worry about. And I'm having a lot of fun with them (especially the Alex the Vampire Slayer fic), so hopefully it shouldn't be too hard.

THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME

Whatever, I could probably use some cheering up. And it might actually help motivate me to get back to writing after my extended unplanned absence. Fingers crossed?
amathela: ([xena] cupid)
I wrote seven fics in November, around 13,000 words, in five fandoms. Three I'd written in before (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wizards Of Waverly Place, Disney RPF), two I hadn't (Glee, Greek).

Burn, Don't Freeze (Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Buffy/Faith - PG-13 - 100 words) It's easy to keep warm, at first.

All The Better To See You With (Glee - Puck/Quinn - PG - 100 words) It's not like he watches her. Spoilers up to episode 1:8 - Mash-Up.

If I Could Talk I'd Tell You (Glee - Artie/Tina - PG - 100 words) There's a lot she wants to tell him. Spoilers for episode 1:9 - Wheels.

I Want To Hold Your Hand (Greek - Ashleigh/Rebecca - PG - 150 words) It's pretty much the same thing they do every night.

Don't You Forget About Me (Wizards of Waverly Place - Justin/Alex - PG-13 - 7005 words) All Alex wanted to do was to make Justin forget. (In which case, the spell could be called a success, but ... maybe not so much.) In which magic is used without permission, Justin gets amnesia, and Alex is definitely not his girlfriend.

Not-So-Good Titles For Murder Mysteries (Disney RPF - David Henrie/Selena Gomez - PG - 5335 words) In which David Henrie kills Joe Jonas (but not for real, probably).

Paparazzi (Disney RPF - Demi Lovato/Selena Gomez - PG - 467 words) Sometimes, when they're in public, Demi walks in front of her.

It's a lot less than the past couple of months, but I can live with that, especially since most of what I'm writing now isn't due for another few weeks or months, and because at least I finished the couple of major fics I was working on more or less around their deadlines. I'm also planning on taking it easy, a little, since I'm still recovering from that whole hospital thing, and because the last thing I want to do is burn myself out on writing just before my holiday ficathons and big bangs are due.

Goals for December: finish my [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics, get more words my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fics (including nailing down a plot for the second one, which is kind of giving me a headache), keep working on To Wish Impossible Things. Maybe write some Yuletide Madness, kink meme, and/or prompt fics if I have time for it.
amathela: ([merlin] saved by a girl)
Firstly, happy birthday to [personal profile] krickets! I'm sorry this is so late, but I hope you had an awesome day :D

Secondly, wow, I have been totally absent the past few days. I haven't even been writing quite as much as I should have been, but I should probably do a fic check-in, anyway, since we're about three quarters of the way through November.

Exchange fics )

Other stuff )

My second [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang fic, and my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic, are still sitting at zero, but I have a potential idea plotted out for the former, and a solid grasp on the latter. I finished my Fall Fandom Free-For-all (yay!) - on time, even (double yay!) - which makes two fics down out of the seven I was working on at the start of the month. And my [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic assignment, while still unfinished, is at least past the minimum word count, so that's something.

All up, I've written almost 15,000 words this month on Stuff I'm Officially Supposed To Be Writing, and about 1000 words in unrelated ficlets; it's not exactly a record breaking word count, but at least it's progress.
amathela: ([disney] i might even be a rockstar)
It's a little late for a mid-month check-in, but whatever, I'm doing one anyway.

Exchange fics )

Other stuff )

So. I don't want to jinx it, but the Fall Fandom Free-For-All fic is finally going the way it was supposed to. Already there have been things that could possibly qualify as wacky hijinks! A reboot was definitely the way to go, I think. (It's still a lot later than I intended to have it finished, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to work on To Wish Impossible Things as much as I wanted, but still. I'm just glad it's actually going somewhere now.)

I'm still keeping up with [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu, and in the past week I've made progress on four of the six fics I'm working on. So, yay.
amathela: ([disney] selena)
Seriously, what is with writing lately? My latest fic, which was initially so easy and effortless, has been dragging for the past week, and I just don't get it. Every time I wrote something, I'd have to go back and edit the crap out of it the next day, because it just was not working, and finally, I realised that the fic as a whole was not working - it was dragging, and not going in the direction I wanted it to, and that while it was ... not bad, exactly, nothing of any real importance was happening at all. For 5000 words. (And for that, I totally blame my lack of outline, which left me to wander off in all sorts of directions I hadn't intended. Oops.)

And finally, I realised that if the fic was giving me that much angst, maybe just pushing through it wasn't the best solution, after all. So I deleted it.

And - I mean, that was a lot of work for nothing, but also, it feels so good to be starting over with a blank slate that I don't regret my decision at all. I now have 600 words of shiny new fic, and have plotted, in some detail, the rest of the fic, so I'm fairly confident that huge sucking mess thing won't be happening again.

(This fic will be FUN, DAMMIT, even if I have to force it to be.)
amathela: ([office] kelly kapoor story hour)
I got my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic assignments, yay! Which is to say: OMG YULETIDE ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥. You guys, I am SO EXCITED about my holiday ficathons, I can't even. (And I've even started writing my [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic fic, I AM SO ON TOP OF THINGS.)

In case you're looking for them, my [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic letter is here, and my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide letter is here. And, okay, I realise that they are insanely long, so I'm sorry for that! But basically, they are just ridiculously rambly ways of saying that I will love anything written for me, so.

I am so psyched about my assignments, I'm suddenly overcome with a rush of wanting to finish up the stuff I'm writing that's still due so I can feel less guilty about jumping straight into my ficathons. Because, AWESOME, SERIOUSLY.
amathela: ([office] shoot me now)
The Office is distracting me. [livejournal.com profile] talumin is currently rewatching what we have of the U.S. series on DVD, and not only is it an all too convenient excuse to not be writing, but that (combined with the recent awesomeness of Subtle Sexuality) is also giving me inconveniently timed re-flaily Ryan/Kelly (and B.J./Mindy) feelings. I had to try really hard to restrain myself from requesting The Office RPF for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide again this year, even though a) it's already one of my requests for [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic, and b) I requested it for last year's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, and received not one but two awesome fics. (Which are totally to blame for me wanting to ask for it again - they were perfect, and I want more of that.)

I'm also trying to ignore a Ryan/Kelly plot bunny that bit me, hard, in favour of finishing up stuff I actually have to do. (Not that I'm not going to write it, just ... later. Along with any potential quest-y Disney RPF fics involving dragons.) I'm not sure if it's helpful or not that what I thought was a simple idea has ballooned into something ridiculously long and involved, but at least that means I won't be tempted to try to quickly dash it off before I finish my other fics.

(Also, okay. You know how I'm completely lazy and tend to name a lot of my fics after song titles? I turned on my iTunes, and the first thing that came on - not the song I'm listening to right now - was the song after which I've named the fic I'm currently supposed to working on. A not-so-subtle hint, perhaps? Fine, fine, I'm writing.)
amathela: ([roswell] max/liz)
It's (roughly) a quarter of the way through November, so, fic check-in time! The only thing I haven't made progress on is my Disney RPF big bang (excluding, of course, my [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics, since those assignments haven't been sent out yet). And I've managed to write something every day for [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu; so far, not counting random ficlets, I've written 6256 words, which ... is not extraordinary, but considering I was majorly blocked on one particular fic for most of that time, it's not horrible.

Exchange fics )

Other stuff )
amathela: ([firefly] inara)
Happy upcoming birthdays! [livejournal.com profile] summerstorm and [personal profile] gigglemonster, I hope you guys have awesome days. I am super busy this month, so I can't guarantee I'll actually be able to write anything, but if you wanted to leave a prompt or whatever, I'll definitely see what I can do (even if it's just incorporating something into an existing fic).

Also, [livejournal.com profile] summerstorm, I'm still working on your Fall Fandom Free-For-All fic; I'd hoped to have it finished already, before I got backed up on other deadlines, but it's coming, hopefully soon :)

If anyone was thinking about signing up for [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic but hasn't done so already, you might still be able to sneak in under the wire; the sign up post is here. Also, [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang still needs artists, vidders, and mixers; you can sign up to do that here until November 9th.

Fall Fandom Free-For-All

1504 / 5000

Oh, Alex and Justin, I missed writing you two so much! It feels like I haven't written in this fandom in forever (probably because I spent the past ten days freaking out about my [livejournal.com profile] spook_me fic, ugh, do you have any idea HOW FREAKING GLAD I am that's finally finished?), and I almost forgot how much I love it. And how easy it is, OMG, I never again want to have such a hard time writing a fic, ever! And this fic is so much fun - there's banter, and wacky magical hijinks, and makeouts (probably), and all the things I love most. (No Max, so far, but sometimes that can't be helped - I tried really hard to fit him into my [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang outline, but mostly only managed to have him be present and not really a focus in a couple of scenes.)

Also, this fic will probably end up being longer than 5000 words, because I suck hard when it comes to reasonable estimates of my Wizards Of Waverly Place fics. (Other fandoms, I can generally manage, but I tend to wildly undershoot with my guesses in this one.)

Why isn't writing this much fun, always?
