YOU GUYS, FESTIVIDS REVEALS ARE UP AND I HAVEN'T EVEN TALKED ABOUT IT YET.

I made Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny (The Middleman) and got super lovely feedback, festivids people are the best people. Most importantly, my recipient seemed to like it, which is really all I was going for. (And this year I really am going to post thinky thoughts about the process and whatever, but that will come later because I can prioritise sometimes.)

My plan to watch ALL THE VIDS got off to a great start before failing spectacularly - the master list has been open in my tabs for the past two weeks, but for the past week and a half I've been too busy to do anything about it. But I will get there eventually! I promise! And my first batch of (very belated) recs for the vids I did watch are coming soon. In the meantime:

MY GIFT VID IS THE BEST VID YOU GUYS, I LOVE IT THE MOST. I know we're not supposed to do this, but I was secretly hoping to get a Starship Troopers vid, AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I GOT AND IT IS AMAZING. The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] danegen made me Rock 'n' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, and it is everything I wanted in a Starship Troopers vid and I just want to watch it over and over and over and now I can! <3 <3 <3

PEOPLE ON MY FLIST WHO LOVE YOUNG JUSTICE (I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF YOU): If you like vids at all, you absolutely have to watch [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria's new vid Marchin' On, it is the whole team and FEELINGS OMG, basically I have to watch it a million more times and you should too!

In other news, I still have not read pretty much any yuletide fic other than my gifts, mostly because I (finally) recently watched Thor and Captain America and now I've been sucked into Avengers fic (Darcy is the best<3). No regrets.
amathela: ([ad] lindsay)
[community profile] yuletide, you guys! SOMEBODY WROTE ME BJ/MINDY, OBVIOUSLY IT IS PRETTY AMAZING. On December 17th You Tell The Truth, which is BJ/Mindy and EVERYONE and parties at Steve's house and it is such a rom-com, basically everything I asked for and it's so delightful.

Also, I got a TOTALLY UNEXPECTED madness fic, so now my Yuletide is doubly amazing! everyone knows is an adorable Hart of Dixie ficlet, Zoe/Wade and Lavon being awesome, PLUS LOTS OF MAKEOUTS, DID I MENTION THE THEME THIS YEAR WAS ME GETTING EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED FOR?

I only wrote one fic this year, mostly because I went away for Christmas (and am now back, obviously), but you can try to guess it and I will write you something? I'm not sure anyone will, mostly because I don't think many people are going to read it, but as long as my recipient enjoys it I am totally okay with that!

Speaking of awesome stuff I got, [personal profile] talumin made me an awesome vid for my birthday a few weeks ago which I shockingly haven't posted about yet! It's called Our House of Bluth, and it's an amazing Arrested Development ensemble vid, IF YOU LIKE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT AT ALL YOU REALLY HAVE TO SEE IT, IT IS SUPER DELIGHTFULLY BEST.
amathela: ([dlm] george)
I have not watched ALL the vids, because that would be insane (there are 174 vids!), but I did watch a lot, and they are all awesome. Since (unfortunately) I can't rec every single vid, here are a few of my very favourites:

25 recs in 22 fandoms )

[community profile] festivids is live!!! The masterlist of vids is here.

I got not one but TWO amazing vids, I feel like the luckiest recipient ever. And they're both awesome!

I gave you all (Push) - I love the slow build of this, the way there's all this tension lying just under the surface, and it's just gorgeous.

Fate (against your will) (Push) - Nick + Cassie! I love the way the the music and the visuals and the inclusion of Cassie's drawings all come together in this to form this kind of off-kilter vibe, the whole thing is just amazing.

I haven't had time to watch anything else yet, but the masterlist looks amazing so I'm probably going to end up watching EVERYTHING. Including both my vids, like, a thousand more times, because, did I mention I ♥ them?
amathela: ([scc] terminate)
Vid playlists are back! It's been a while since I've done one of these, but it turns out, watching vids is an excellent break from doing assignments. These are some of my favourite Sarah Connor Chronicles vids - I should stress, though, that it is by no means a comprehensive rec list. There are a lot of amazing vids not on here, mostly because I wanted to structure them as a somewhat coherent playlist. I will say this, though: If you're looking for a good Sarah Connor Chronicles vid, download one at random. Chances are, it'll be excellent.

(Also, unlike my previous vid playlists, there are no individual commentaries on this one, mostly because I'm tired and should get back to studying. Suffice it to say, I recommend them all wholeheartedly.)

Vid recs: This is how the world ends )

Thing: I saw High School Musical 3! And it was awesome. And, okay, the theatre was mostly filled with giggling eight year old girls, but whatever. I laughed throughout, like, the whole thing (roughly equal parts amusement and affection), and there was singing and dancing and basketball and prom and graduation and Ryan being delightfully gay and an entire scene whose sole purpose, as far as I could tell, was to have everyone in the cast grope hug Gabriella. Anyway, that was pretty much the final part to my whole birthday week extravaganza, and I had a blast.

Also, while we were shopping beforehand, Jeremy asked me if I would want a High School Musical DDR-type game, and I was forced to admit that, yes, I really would want that. I'm not sure if I just turned twenty-five or twelve.

Thing 1: Vid insta-rec! (Now That I Can) Dance by [livejournal.com profile] ladymajavader Legend of the Seeker, Richard/Kahlan. Richard tries to impress Kahlan with a combination of flying leaps, pervasive shirtlessness and funky new dance moves he learned just for her. But does she love him (now that he can dance)? I know fandom's collective attention is currently focused on a different cracky fantasy show, but I kind of love Legend of the Seeker beyond the telling of it. Even if you're not watching the show, I'd definitely recommend this vid, which is awesome and upbeat and dance-y and cracky and shirtless. Guh.

Thing 3: One Tree Hill!! ♥ Okay, so some of you might be questioning my fandom choices by now, but I refuse to care. I just finished season two, and oh, with Dan -> building on fire and Anders HOT UNCLE COOPER! and Nathan having, like, the best breakdown in the history of ever (where he goes to school because he threw his Playstation at the wall his Playstation broke, and his idea of punishing Haley is to paint the apartment pink and hang pictures of clowns, which is pretty much completely awesome) and crashing race cars and cracky AUs, and ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

1) My paid account expired, oh noes! I might have to think about renewing it as a birthday present to myself - I know I can't really afford it, but I really don't want to lose my icons :(

2) My birthday is in less than a week! I think I'm officially having one of those "what the hell am I doing with my life?" moments, because, yeesh. Why can't I magically know what I want to do when I grow up? (And why can't that day be very far in the future?)

3) More fic:

You And Me, We're A Front Page Story (Smallville - Clark/Lois - PG-13 - 4300 words) Top secret research. Undercover investigations. Close encounters of the physical kind. Just another day at the office. Spoilers up to episode 8:5 - Committed.

Written for [livejournal.com profile] svgurl for the [livejournal.com profile] 12days_of_clois exchange, for the prompt "Clark and Lois previously avoiding their feelings and are forced to confront it; maybe they're trapped in a small space or something?" Which I basically used as an excuse to unload a bunch of cliches, because, hey, it's Smallville. And, okay, I may have stolen the 'posing as a temp' thing from an episode of Prison Break, but it makes me happy, and Lisa Lawson was a minor recurring character on Greek, which, again. It's Smallville, it can be crack if I say it is.

4) Progress is being made on the Sweet Charity fic. Which is due on my birthday, so I really want to get it finished early so I can relax and get wasted do nothing.

5) I have another new show! You guys, if you like fantasy shows at all, you should totally go watch Legend of the Seeker. It's not quite as crack-tastic as Merlin (well, not yet - it's produced by Sam Raimi, so it's really only a matter of time), but it's pretty and awesome and kind of epic in a cheesy sort of way. It's based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels, which I've never read, but it's perfect stock fantasy fare, and I really love Richard already. And it's got shippiness, and Bruce Spence, and Jay Laga'aia (who has serious thoughts on Play School, and is made of awesome), and if you ever watched Xena or Hercules, you should definitely check it out, because it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and if you need more convincing (or even if you don't), you should definitely watch [livejournal.com profile] ladymajavader's vid I Love Rockin' Rahl, which is what convinced me to have a look at the show in the first place. Seriously shiny!

I was feeling spoilery character stuff about season three so far ). In the meantime, some vid recs:

3 AM Call by [livejournal.com profile] shati

Who is this? Awesome, chilling Niki vid, and the music choice is fantastic.

The Wreckoning by [livejournal.com profile] charmax

A Niki-Jessica vid that kicks ass - one of my favourites.

Jack, or, Adventures in Reading Against the Text by [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana

One of my very favourite fanvids of, like, all time. Wherein Niki and Claire and Monica all get to be as awesome as they rightfully deserve, even if it does take some fiddling with canon. Because that's what fandom is all about, right?
amathela: (bsg: cylon)
Mayday! by [livejournal.com profile] cherryice: Boomer! My Boomer, and oh, I love this vid so very much. Go watch it, now (it's under a minute, so you really have no excuse).
amathela: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] such_heights asked for Doctor Who and Torchwood recs. It turns out, I have a lot of these. This is part rec list, part playlist, and part guide to the Doctor Who universe in vid form. Spoilers for all aired episodes (up to Journey's End and Exit Wounds) under the cut.

Vid recs: Life, the universe, and everything (Doctor Who/Torchwood) )
amathela: (bsg: boomer)
[livejournal.com profile] dayln03 asked for BSG and/or Sharon recs, which I'm all too happy to provide. I wish I had even more, but in the meantime, here's a glimpse into what BSG looks like from my (Sharon-centric) perspective.

Vid recs: Sharon + ensemble )
amathela: (sga: black & white)
[livejournal.com profile] tielan asked for SGA recs - Teyla, John/Teyla, and team. Here are some of my favourites:

Vid recs: Team Teyla

Mission Report by [livejournal.com profile] lim (Teyla)

This aired at vividcon, in the "vids that push the envelope" show, and it certainly does that. It's a mission report in song, from Teyla's POV, and it provides a unique and fascinating view of Teyla from a different cultural perspective. (Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the vid.)

Half Acre by [livejournal.com profile] kitakatzz (Teyla)

A lovely, poignant Teyla + ensemble vid, with some nice John and Teyla moments. The effects can be distracting at first, but after having watched the vid multiple times, I'm quite enamoured with them.

32 by [livejournal.com profile] keewick (Teyla)

I absolutely adore this vid, and I fall in love with it a bit more every time I watch it. It's definitely my favourite Teyla vid, and has some very interesting things to say about Teyla's role, and her place both in Atlantis and Pegasus.

Battleflag by [livejournal.com profile] keewick (Team)

Like the show, this is slightly John-centric, but it has some nice team moments, and includes some good Pegasus scenes rather than focusing exclusively on Atlantis. Definitely one of my favourite SGA team vids.

Another Sunday by [livejournal.com profile] jescaflowne (Team)

This vid is ... superlative. In every way. If you haven't watched it, I don't know where you've been hiding. It's my team, in all their sparkly goodness. (What? Ronon doesn't sparkle in your world? I pity you.) One of my favourite vids, ever.
amathela: (misc: pretty)
[livejournal.com profile] superduperkc said she'd like vid recs, but not tailored to her interests - as she said, "because vidding is one of my interests, I will watch almost anything in almost any fandom." And that struck a chord with me, because increasingly, so will I. When I first started watching vids, I stuck to fandoms I loved, and then to fandoms I was familiar with, and have got to the point now where I love watching vids even - sometimes especially - in fandoms I know nothing about. (And I'm sure I'm not the only person who has discovered, or rediscovered, love for a fandom via watching vids.) So, with that in my mind, I decided to put together a themed rec list - vids from shows I had never seen, or had watched a bit of but wasn't really fannish about. And somewhere along the line, this morphed into a fantasy playlist of vids for fandoms I'm not in (or wasn't, at the time of first viewing).

For [livejournal.com profile] superduperkc: I hope there are vids here you haven't seen, and that you enjoy your recs as much as I enjoyed putting them together.

Vid recs: Unfamiliar fandoms )

Want your own vid recs? Just ask me.
amathela: (bsg: my baby shot me down)
I often start putting together rec lists, but then I get distracted or whatever and don't end up finishing. So, to keep me motivated, I was thinking about putting individual rec posts together for people on my flist, tailored to their interests or whatever. Anyone interested? If you like vids (I could possibly be persuaded to include fic, too, if you really want), just drop me a comment and I'll happily rustle you up a rec list (if there's anything in particular you want - fandoms, characters, pairings, themes - just let me know, otherwise I'll go with what I know about you). Because, it'll be fun?
amathela: (bsg: pretty robots)
Technically it's no longer International Day of Femslash over here, but it probably is somewhere in the world, so I figure I can still do all the things I meant to post yesterday.

First up, vid recs! Under the cut )

Naturally, these are only some of the many excellent femslash vids out there. If you have some favourites I haven't included, by all means, drop me a link - I'm always looking for more good femslash.
