amathela: ([wowp] make it happen)
A month ago, I wasn't sure if Justin/Alex fandom was big enough to sustain an entire kink meme (but screw it, it was an awesome idea).

Since [livejournal.com profile] omgjustinalex went live, people have left 97 prompts, and written 36 fics. And it's still going on. (This may not seem like a lot, compared to other fandoms, but we're teeny tiny, so I think it's totally impressive.)

SO, BASICALLY WE'RE AWESOME. ILU GUYS SO MUCH ♥

I've written seven fics for it so far, and, yeah, more are probably on their way.

UNFILLED PROMPTS | FILLED PROMPTS | MAIN ENTRY

Also, it looks like both Wizards Of Waverly Place and Disney RPF are qualifying fandoms for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide! Which is awesome; you guys already know I'm totally requesting WOWP fic for that, right?

And speaking of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I'm thinking my other requests will probably be Miss Match (again; I swear I'm going to keep requesting this fandom until somebody ever writes fic for it, you know you want to), Greek (also again), and maybe Centre Stage? Ooh, or She's The Man, yay! Disney RPF is tempting, but I'm thinking about requesting that, even as a wild card fandom, for [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic, so we'll see.
amathela: ([b&s] maybe it won't end)
A shipping meme! I couldn't help it, I have way too much fun shipping stuff. And talking about stuff I ship. (Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] dollsome.)

Ask me a fandom, and I will tell you:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

(I feel like I'm maybe posting way too much lately? Or maybe that's just because I spent last month being a complete LJ hermit. But I keep having stuff to say, and then forgetting to stay other stuff, until it's just this big pile of ... whatever, this is getting out of hand already.)

Numbered lists, so I can pretend to be organised:

01. [livejournal.com profile] remixthedrabble sign ups are officially closed. I think this is going to be an awesome round already, and now I just need to actually, you know, match people up. But I already have a spreadsheet! So I feel as if I'm at least a little prepared in that regard.

02. [personal profile] oxoniensis is once again hosting the awesome Fall Fandom Free-For-All. Basically, you can go over there and leave a list of up to ten fannish things (fic, vids, art) you'd like, and then go looking through other peoples' comments to see what you can give in return. And other people volunteer to make stuff for you. It's totally fun and joy-inducing. Anyway, my wish list is here, so if you have one already, or you end up posting one, link me to it? There may be something I can do.

03. I think I may already be inclined to write a sequel to The Night Moves. Even though it's really just a PWP. Like, it occurred to me while writing it that there was this whole plot with the possibly-evil professor that was necessary for the fic to happen, but that kind of got swept under the rug in favour of porn, and ... I actually do know what was going on there. And I feel like maybe I want to write it? With actual plot this time, and Justin and Alex dealing with the whole closet thing and maybe hooking up again. Mostly, it was just a fleeting thought, but then I was idly sort of thinking about it, and I thought, "If I wrote this, it could totally be called The Shake Up." (For anyone who doesn't love season four of The O.C. as much as I do, which is maybe everyone, they're both episode names.) And then it had a title, which ... means it's already kind of a thing in my head?

And, okay, so I know it goes The Shake Up > The Night Moves, but, that could be kind of quirky? To title them out of order? And basically, I love The O.C. S4, and random cross-fandom references that nobody but me cares about, way too much not to write this now. And also, like, Alex and Justin were supposed to be at Wiz Tech all summer (setting aside what that does to the timeline, because, well, Justin meets Miranda about eight episodes after their first kiss, so), and we only saw ... maybe a week of that, or something? I really feel like Further Adventures At Wiz Tech is a rich and mostly unexplored source of potential fic.

... One day, I will write post-movie fic, I swear.

04. I really was looking forward to the [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon bonus round this year, and I have just started to realise that maybe that's not going to happen? Which is a shame. I do love apocafic, despite my general aversion to angst. (Although, to be fair, two of the three [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon fics I've written were not particularly angsty.)

What the hell, it's been ages since I posted a meme:

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

I got a Dreamwidth invite! I'm amathela over there as well, so stop by and say hi, and let me know if you have an account there already. I'm not planning on leaving LiveJournal, but new and shiny things never fail to excite me, so I think I'll at least give Dreamwidth a chance (and it seems fairly compatible with LJ, so that's a plus).

So far, I've imported my journal, and I have a sticky post up here, if you want or need to get in touch with me.

And [personal profile] sabaceanbabe, I swear I haven't forgotten about your birthday fic! It's mostly finished (I admit, I've been distracted and dragging my feet), but hopefully it should be posted soon.

[testing the cross-post function ...]

Okay, it's officially surprising how reinvested in BSG I am now that the show is over. Which is odd, because it's not like I really loved the finale. (There's definitely something about imperfect canon sources and fannish impetus, particularly since the character I'm most in love with right now is Boomer.)

I rewatched the miniseries a week or so ago for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_refrak, and then I watched all of season one (because I love that season, like, unreservedly), and then today, I watched the miniseries again. And, I don't know, I really feel like the miniseries gets better and better every time you watch it - like, the first time I watched it, I remember it felt like it went for about six hours, and was just incredibly dense (but awesome). But after the ... fourth or fifth time through, it feels really well-balanced and easy to watch and not too heavy at all. Which, in retrospect, may have something to do with the fact that I first started watching BSG after starting SGA ;)

Anyway, I was going to watch season one - again - but I decided I felt like watching season 4.0 instead, since I now have it on DVD and everything. So I'm doing that. It's actually a lot of fun, especially since I can marathon it now; I didn't get to do that the first time through, and it's definitely the way I prefer to watch my TV shows.

What I should be doing, of course, is working on my Big Bang(s), but, I don't know. I'm really procrastinating on that, plus they're just ... not BSG. I have very little time for things that aren't BSG right now. I'm feeling almost monofannish, actually, which is something I've never felt before. It's new, and kind of exciting (if somewhat inconvenient, re: the aforementioned Big Bangs).

I still need to type up some episode reactions (man, I haven't done those - at least, for non-BSG shows - for ages, but Greek came back this week, and I am so freaking excited about that), plus a couple of BSG meta posts I still really want to write. And vid recs, because I really believe, in a totally subjective and biased fashion, that BSG fandom has the best vids ever. And my March fic roundup (of all of two fics), which I will post shortly. At least my miniseries(-ish) picspam is nearly done.

Plus, I am kind of having vid thoughts. Which, I know, I say that from time to time and inevitably never follow through. But this time, I actually have all the footage already sourced, which is usually my biggest problem - like, I run out of vidding momentum before I even really get started on a vid, which sucks. So, who knows. One day, I swear, I will actually make a vid, and not just parts of one.

Also, it's 3pm and haven't slept, so - maybe I should get on that?

ETA: Dude, what's going on at Kindreds? (I mean, I guess I could check it out myself, but.) I haven't visited there for ages - I should really rectify that, once I get it together enough to write some Helo/Athena fic.
amathela: ([bsg] boomer)
I really can't believe BSG is over. I wasn't caught up on it until tonight, but now I've watched the final episodes, so ...

Battlestar Galactica )

In honour of the occasion: community recs!

[livejournal.com profile] bsg_pornbattle. Prompting is open until the end of the 23rd, so you should all go leave some prompts. Because what's more cathartic than porn, really?

[livejournal.com profile] bsg_refrak. What better way to deal with the show ending than to start it all over again? The rewatch of the miniseries is beginning this week, and god, the nostalgia! Like, do you remember when Helo wasn't going to be brought back for the series? (No, seriously.) Or when Lee and Adama didn't get along? When Adama and Roslin didn't get along? When Kara and Lee were Starbuck and Apollo? When the entire series was so full of promise, and we had no idea how it was all going to end up? Come along for the ride!
amathela: ([roswell] max)
Oh my god, you guys! Whoever sent me a valentine in [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's Valentine's Day Game, thank you so much! It was wonderful and fuzzy-making to see my name there :D

Um, I guess people's names are supposed to remain secret, but if you wanted a fic or something? You can comment anonymously with a request. Or, y'know, just enjoy knowing that you totally made my day.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

In other news, I started watching The Big Bang Theory, and I'm totally in love. And shipping Sheldon/Penny, because apparently I'm incapable of not shipping. I'm almost done with the first season, and it's just delightful.

Bang Bang

amathela: ([gossip] score)
I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] thelittlebang. I'm really excited - I've had this story idea and notes sitting around on a list of Things I Should Write for ages, so this should be an awesome motivation for me to, y'know, actually write it. Plus, this will be the first Big Bang (or, well, Little Bang, obviously) I've participated in, and 15,000 words sounds like a manageable way to try to ease into that.

Writers need two betas, and people writing in small fandoms need to bring at least one of their own. I've already asked [livejournal.com profile] talumin if he'd be willing to do it (which went something like -

[livejournal.com profile] amathela: Would you be willing to beta a femslash -
[livejournal.com profile] talumin: Yes!)

But if anyone on my friends list would be interested in beta-ing a 15,000 word She's The Man (Olivia/Viola) rom-com, that'd be awesome.

And the writing period doesn't start until March, which is good, because it gives me time to plot and outline and stuff, plus to finish up a few of the fics I'm currently working on before that.

Also, since it's February, I figured now would be a good time to check in with my Fannish New Year's Resolutions.

Progress, updates, etc. )
amathela: ([vm] acceptable in the eighties)
TV is back on! I haven't actually started watching it yet, but there's a new Legend of the Seeker I'm very excited about. And BSG comes back in a few days ...

All my holiday exchange fics have been finished and posted:

Summer In The City (Merlin - Arthur/Morgana - PG - 3173 words) In which there is a summer festival, Morgana indulges in a spot of matchmaking, and she and Arthur fight. A lot. Spoilers up to episode 1:8 - The Beginning Of The End. Written for [livejournal.com profile] breakingbeads for [livejournal.com profile] merlin_santa.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Farscape RPF - Ben Browder/Claudia Black - R - 3500 words) It's a good thing, he thinks, that John is supposed to be in love with Aeryn, or people might start asking questions. (aka. Five outfits Ben and Claudia wear, in varying degrees of ridiculousness.) Written for [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

Method Acting (Decipher Reflections From Reality) (One Tree Hill RPF - James Lafferty/Bethany Joy Galeotti - PG - 2694 words) Her life is measured out in almosts. (She almost took a risk, once, but it was only fiction.) Five times fiction and reality were almost the same thing. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie for [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic.

So, yes, I ended up writing for the same person for Yuletide and Pretty Lights. And I could have written Ben/Claudia for both exchanges, but the Pretty Lights assignment came pretty much as I was just starting to rewatch One Tree Hill, so I decided to go for a little diversity instead. The Pretty Lights story ended up not being quite what I intended (it was supposed to be flirty and happy and fluffy, which it ended up being ... not so much), but I'm pretty happy with the way all my exchange fics turned out. And I'm very happy with what I received in return, so it was an excellent holiday ficathon season.

Even more exciting, apparently I've started writing Veronica Mars fic again:

Nice To Meet You Anyway (Veronica Mars - Casey/Veronica - PG-13 - 2462 words) Trust doesn't come that easily. Spoilers up to episode 1:9 - Drinking The Kool-Aid.

General Veronica Mars fic + fandom ramblings )

So I'm feeling very happily and productively fannish at the moment. Not to mention a couple of other fics I should be writing in Weeds and Skins, because I may be a lot of things, but lacking in new fandoms I am not. (OMG Tony/Effy! [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes, I blame you and your epic OTP picspam.)

So, I'm really not sure when I'm going to have time to get around to actually watching television, but I feel like I'm okay with that.
amathela: ([spn] ruby)
Stuff I want to do in fandom in 2009:

- Leave more feedback. This is number one, because, honestly, I'm usually really bad at this. Which sucks, because I know how much I cherish every single comment I receive. So, I'm going to make a concentrated effort to leave feedback on stuff I read and love, even if it's just "I loved this!" or something equally inane.

- Write longer fics, even if it means I write fewer fics. I have quite a few plot bunnies/outlines/ideas for longer fics that I never get around to finishing because, well, I'm lazy, and writing something I can finish in a few days instead of a few weeks or months appeals to my desire for instant gratification. I still do want to write those fics, though, so this year I'm going to try to focus less on short, single-session fics and more on putting a sustained effort into plotting, outlining, and actually writing longer fics. Quality > quantity, and I'm sure that, in the long run, I'll appreciate having written one or two long(ish) fics a lot more than a score of quickly-forgotten drabbles.

- Sort through the unfinished fics and fic ideas I have laying around my computer, in notebooks, and on scrap pieces of paper. Organise them, and type up what needs to be typed, or at least work out some better way of keeping them that isn't "lying around in a loose heap on my floor." Finish the fics I still want to write, and trash the ones I don't.

- Finish at least one vid. I've started a couple, and have ideas for a few more, but none of that really means anything if I don't ever finish one. Realise that I'll never get to make that really awesome, epic, good vid if I don't finish at least one or two possibly crappy vids first.
amathela: (bsg: sparkle motion)
Dammit, [livejournal.com profile] sol_se, I do not need a new fandom! STOP TRYING TO CONVINCE ME PRISON BREAK IS FULL OF CRACK, I AM NOT LISTENING LA LA LA LA.

Between the vids and the macros and the icons, and a couple of excellent, actually non-cracky vids I've watched (and Wentworth Miller being insanely hot and me still loving Dominic Purcell from Raw FM), I am trying so hard not to give in and watch it. Because, like, they dress up in costumes because of something or other? Like, a lot? I don't even know. I am pretty sure the show cannot be half as entertaining as my little glimpse into the fandom. But ... if I watched the show, I could be in the fandom. I DO NOT NEED THIS, OKAY, I HAVE REACHED MY FANDOM QUOTA. I am so torn. Maybe I should just go watch the vids again?
amathela: (tv: toaster)
[livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis and [livejournal.com profile] pheebs1 are hosting a Fall Fandom Free-For-All. Leave a fannish wish-list of up to ten items, and see if you can get the fic/vid/icons/etc you've always wanted; browse the comments and see if you can fill somebody else's wish. It's a totally awesome concept, and if you haven't stopped by already, you should definitely think about it.

My list is here, if anybody's interested. Link me yours, if you have one; I'm off to see what I can offer to make.
amathela: (scc: terminate)
This is mostly for my own reference, inspired by some of the timeline discussions over at [livejournal.com profile] schronicles. Sarah Connor Chronicles timeline only, (broadly) referencing the first two films,1 and by no means comprehensive.

We all have them, right? Those pairings we love, or maybe are just a little interested in, but which - for whatever reason - simply aren't popular. Maybe it interferes with a fandom's OTP, maybe it features one or more minor characters, maybe it's a het pairing in a primarily slash fandom (or vice versa). Maybe it's completely cracktastic - the two characters have never actually met in fandom, or there's no good reason to ship them other than just because. Or maybe the pairing is actually canon, but is pretty much loathed (or simply ignored) by fandom in general. And sometimes you just wish someone would come along and say, "Hey, I can write that for you!"

Well, why don't we give it a shot? Comment here with any or all of your favourite unpopular pairings, in any fandom you like, and see if maybe there's somebody out there who will write it. Check out other peoples' wish lists, and if there's a fandom you're familiar with, and a pairing you're not completely opposed to, have a go at it. It can be comment!fic, a snippet, whatever - but come give it a shot, try something new, and help spread the love of unconventional pairings.

[What qualifies as an unpopular pairing? As a general rule, if you couldn't compile a rec list without a) including every fic you've ever read, or b) at all, it probably belongs here.]

Fandoms currently represented: Farscape, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Sports Night, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, The West Wing, Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls.
amathela: (ww: donna)
So, that unpopular opinions meme:

01. Post this on your journal.
02. Your friends will comment with some of your fandoms and/or characters from said fandoms.
03. In a new post (or in comments) respond back with one or two of your unpopular opinions for that fandom and/or characters from said fandoms.

So, you know where to find my fandoms, right? (Here.) Sometimes, I'm not entirely sure what the popular fandom opinions are, but I'll do my best ;)
amathela: (misc: angie)
As per a slightly random conversation in [livejournal.com profile] talumin's journal:

Daniel Jackson/Lara Croft: Awesome pairing, y/y?
amathela: (mean girls: the rules of feminism)
There have been a lot of entires popping up on my flist of late about female characters, and about why fandom (which is largely female-dominated) can be so critical of them. And while there are certainly a lot of factors to consider (the quality and consistency of female characters, the fact that many female characters are written by men), I think one of the major reasons is that we are (most of us) women. I know, it seems counterintuitive, but bear with me.

Girls like that )
amathela: (bsg: support your cylon forces)
On RPF, and specifically *why* )

Now, off to keep typing up my BSG crack!fic of doom, which is finished but still sitting in my notebook. It would be so much easier if I wrote directly onto my laptop, but I have this thing about writing on actual paper, so this is just what I have to deal with when I end up writing twenty pages' worth of fic.
amathela: (gg: dance marathon)
Firstly: An apology to everyone who's still waiting on feedback from me. I have five stories I still need to leave feedback for, and they should all be done by the end of today :)

Secondly: I have a couple of meta-y posts still percolating in my head, and I'm still trying to finish off a bunch of ficlets; but I just can't help myself, so a fic + meta meme.

Comment with a pairing from any fandom I'm familiar with (a list can be found in my intro post). I'll talk for at least a hundred words about the pairing, and promise to be as honest and diplomatic as possible. Feel free to comment with pairings I like, pairings I hate, pairings I've never heard of, OT3s and more. As a bonus, I'll include a fic snippet for each pairing (romance not guaranteed); if there's a scenario in particular you'd like to see, just let me know.
