I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts again this year, and I just got my assignment, which is awesome. After finishing a bunch of long fics all in a row, I think a low pressure fic gift basket is exactly what I need.

(And yes, for those waiting, I am working on the birthday fics I promised. I've just been a little distracted, oops.)

In case you're my [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts author, hello! I've written up a little bit about the fandoms I asked for and my favourite (Jewish and/or female) characters; in any of these fandoms, I'd love anything, of course, but this is just in case you're looking for a bit of extra direction :)

In general, I love fun stories; I'm not so much with the angst, but go for it if it's your thing. I love het and femslash as well as gen, and I really love female characters. Humour, crack, fluff, AU, banter, UST - I'll love pretty much anything, so just write whatever's fun for you!

Title: Try This Trick And Spin It
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing(s): Lamb/Veronica
Word Count: 3077
Rating: NC-17

Summary: "Veronica Mars is smarter than me."

Notes: Written for [personal profile] oxoniensis' Porn Battle VII. Spoilers up to episode 3:12 - There's Got To Be A Morning After Pill (and one very mild spoiler for episode 3:16 - Un-American Graffiti).

Baby you can drive my car )

More self-indulgent meta! I wrote up the first part of this commentary a long time ago, and I meant to get to the rest of it shortly after I finished the series. Unfortunately, I got distracted for a while, but better late than never, right?

If you're looking for part one of the commentary, it's here. And if you're looking to read the fic itself, it's posted here.

This part covers What Goes Down from A Night At The Benetian to Up And Down And Back Again. Spoilers up to episode 3:20 - The Bitch Is Back.

Commentary, canon, and more )

Oh my god. The What Goes Down sequel is done, done, done. I got 4500 words written today (including a 1000 word smutty coda) to finish off the series, which clocks in at about 30,000 words. Which ... is way longer than I expected it to be. That makes it almost as long as the first series, when it was originally supposed to be a short sequel to finish off the universe. I failed at both, it seems, since I have ideas for at least four more things I really want to write in the 'verse. (Including yet another sequel. Sigh. I'm starting to fear becoming one of those badfic authors who keeps posting chapter after chapter of these epic series, so to read anything they post you have to go over 100,000 words of other stuff. Only, I hope this isn't badfic. Really, really hope. I like it, but maybe my taste isn't as good as I think it is.)

Anyway, it's done! I still need to type it all up, since it's currently sitting on 60 pages of a notebook, but I look forward to being able to post it soon.

Fic discussion, no spoilers )

Also, does anyone remember when I posted a while ago about a hypothetical High School Musical dance game? Well, it isn't hypothetical any more! It turns out is actually exists, which is AWESOME, and even more awesome is that J brought it home for me today! Which is a totally excellent reward for finishing my fic.

Since I've been recently getting back into Veronica Mars fandom, and with news about the possible movie coming out, it seemed like as good a time as any to (re)watch the Veronica Mars FBI trailer. And ... I mean, on one hand, I'm glad they never made it. Because it's not Veronica Mars; it's a spin-off of Veronica Mars, only it happens to star the same person. And given the bulk of season three, I can't quite make myself believe it would have been really good. But on the other hand, it did have potential (and I'm an eternal optimist), and there were things I really liked about it.

In which I talk about the promo, so there be spoilers )

And, god help me, I'm really trying to resist writing fic for it. Because ... it's based on ten minutes of a promo that never became anything, that gives us only the barest glimpse of new characters and relationships, and that has exactly zero potential audience. And yet.

If there's anyone who hasn't seen it, though, and wants to, here you go. It's worth a glimpse, I think, if only to see what might have been (for better or for worse). And, yes, I am glad they're not going the FBI route with the movie - there'd be too much backstory for non-fans, too much new information for fans, and in two hours with such a huge shift in the original premise, I really don't think there would have been much point to it. The appeal of making a movie out of a cancelled series, after all, is that it allows you to wrap up loose ends and play a little longer in the world, and Veronica Mars FBI: The Movie would have done neither. I am trying to convince myself to be cautiously optimistic about the actual movie they might make, though.
amathela: ([vm] lamb/veronica)
So, they're making a Veronica Mars movie? Maybe? I would be really, really excited about this if Mars, Bars had never happened. Because season three spoilers are spoilery )

But if the movie does actually get made, of course I'm going to see it. And squee about it. But, sigh.

In other VM news, I've written over 21,000 words of the What Goes Down sequel in five days, and my thumb is bruised, because I stupidly write everything longhand. And I don't want to stop writing, but at this point, it's causing me actual pain. Like, I took painkillers so I could keep writing, even though the universe was sending me clear signals to stop. (The pain was probably one. My brand new pen running out in less than a day and the fact that I went through four more trying to find one that worked might have been another.) Probably not my best idea ever, but, what are you going to do?

Um, this post was supposed to have a point, I think? Possibly that Lamb is awesome, which I'm pretty sure you already knew I thought.

Now, I think I'm going to weigh up the merits of not causing myself permanent injury vs WRITING YAY.
amathela: ([vm] acceptable in the eighties)
TV is back on! I haven't actually started watching it yet, but there's a new Legend of the Seeker I'm very excited about. And BSG comes back in a few days ...

All my holiday exchange fics have been finished and posted:

Summer In The City (Merlin - Arthur/Morgana - PG - 3173 words) In which there is a summer festival, Morgana indulges in a spot of matchmaking, and she and Arthur fight. A lot. Spoilers up to episode 1:8 - The Beginning Of The End. Written for [livejournal.com profile] breakingbeads for [livejournal.com profile] merlin_santa.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Farscape RPF - Ben Browder/Claudia Black - R - 3500 words) It's a good thing, he thinks, that John is supposed to be in love with Aeryn, or people might start asking questions. (aka. Five outfits Ben and Claudia wear, in varying degrees of ridiculousness.) Written for [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

Method Acting (Decipher Reflections From Reality) (One Tree Hill RPF - James Lafferty/Bethany Joy Galeotti - PG - 2694 words) Her life is measured out in almosts. (She almost took a risk, once, but it was only fiction.) Five times fiction and reality were almost the same thing. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sugargroupie for [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic.

So, yes, I ended up writing for the same person for Yuletide and Pretty Lights. And I could have written Ben/Claudia for both exchanges, but the Pretty Lights assignment came pretty much as I was just starting to rewatch One Tree Hill, so I decided to go for a little diversity instead. The Pretty Lights story ended up not being quite what I intended (it was supposed to be flirty and happy and fluffy, which it ended up being ... not so much), but I'm pretty happy with the way all my exchange fics turned out. And I'm very happy with what I received in return, so it was an excellent holiday ficathon season.

Even more exciting, apparently I've started writing Veronica Mars fic again:

Nice To Meet You Anyway (Veronica Mars - Casey/Veronica - PG-13 - 2462 words) Trust doesn't come that easily. Spoilers up to episode 1:9 - Drinking The Kool-Aid.

General Veronica Mars fic + fandom ramblings )

So I'm feeling very happily and productively fannish at the moment. Not to mention a couple of other fics I should be writing in Weeds and Skins, because I may be a lot of things, but lacking in new fandoms I am not. (OMG Tony/Effy! [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes, I blame you and your epic OTP picspam.)

So, I'm really not sure when I'm going to have time to get around to actually watching television, but I feel like I'm okay with that.

We all have them, right? Those pairings we love, or maybe are just a little interested in, but which - for whatever reason - simply aren't popular. Maybe it interferes with a fandom's OTP, maybe it features one or more minor characters, maybe it's a het pairing in a primarily slash fandom (or vice versa). Maybe it's completely cracktastic - the two characters have never actually met in fandom, or there's no good reason to ship them other than just because. Or maybe the pairing is actually canon, but is pretty much loathed (or simply ignored) by fandom in general. And sometimes you just wish someone would come along and say, "Hey, I can write that for you!"

Well, why don't we give it a shot? Comment here with any or all of your favourite unpopular pairings, in any fandom you like, and see if maybe there's somebody out there who will write it. Check out other peoples' wish lists, and if there's a fandom you're familiar with, and a pairing you're not completely opposed to, have a go at it. It can be comment!fic, a snippet, whatever - but come give it a shot, try something new, and help spread the love of unconventional pairings.

[What qualifies as an unpopular pairing? As a general rule, if you couldn't compile a rec list without a) including every fic you've ever read, or b) at all, it probably belongs here.]

Fandoms currently represented: Farscape, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Sports Night, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, The West Wing, Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls.
